Arsenal plan a raid for €116.3M world-class player, but Barcelona can foil plans

Arsenal News The One Moment That Decided Wembley Before Arteta Could React

Arsenal Chasing Julian Alvarez

Arsenal have put Julián Álvarez at the top of their summer wishlist to lead the line, according to reports from Spanish outlets like Mundo Deportivo. The 26-year-old Argentine is all over the back pages right now after a massive season with Atletico Madrid, where he’s racked up 19 goals and nine assists in all competitions. Even with those numbers, there’s growing talk that the versatile forward could actually leave the Metropolitano once the season wraps up.

While PSG and Barcelona are keeping a close eye on the situation, the North Londoners see him as the exact upgrade they need. Looking at his FotMob stats, Álvarez is a constant menace; he’s played over 1,900 minutes in La Liga this term with 12 goal involvements and a rock-solid 7.11 average rating.

He does more than just score, too, creating 47 chances and 10 big chances for his teammates so far. Atletico will likely hold out for a huge fee, probably more than the €95 million they paid originally, since his contract runs all the way to 2030.

Could Julián Álvarez be the Upgrade on Viktor Gyökeres That Wins Arsenal the League?

Mikel Arteta has a big call to make up front. Viktor Gyökeres has struggled to stay clinical enough to really push for a Premier League title, and while the Swede has 18 goals in his first season, his finishing has gone missing in the biggest games. On the flip side, Julián Álvarez already knows the Premier League inside out from his time at Manchester City and has the tactical brain to slot right into Arsenal’s style of play.

17-year-old talent moving to Arsenal? But Chelsea might spoil their plans!

His knack for free-kicks and superior link-up play would give the Gunners a much more mobile focal point than a traditional striker like Gyökeres. Plus, the Argentine’s work rate off the ball, he’s among the best for winning possession high up the pitch, is the perfect option for the high-press system at the Emirates. If Arsenal can beat Barcelona, who see Álvarez as the natural successor to Robert Lewandowski, they might finally find that clinical spark they’ve been missing.
