€35M defender to the Emirates? Arsenal face intense competition from Manchester United

The Rising Interest In Joaquin Seys: Arsenal and United Watch On

Both Arsenal and Manchester United have emerged as serious suitors for Club Brugge defender Joaquin Seys as the summer transfer window approaches. According to a report from SportsBoom, the two English giants have regularly sent scouts to Belgium to monitor the 21-year-old’s rapid development.

These scouts reportedly believe the young fullback has what it takes to reach the top, which justifies a projected price tag of around €35 million. This valuation seems fair when considering his versatility, as the Belgian prospect is comfortable playing on either the left or the right flank. Throughout the 2025/2026 campaign, he has shown what he can do at both ends of the pitch, contributing one goal and four assists in the Belgian Pro League alone.

The defender is currently under contract with Club Brugge until 2029, meaning the Belgian side are in a strong position for any upcoming negotiations. However, the chance to play in the Premier League would be a massive leap for Seys, offering him the chance to test himself against the best wingers in the world.

Defensively, his numbers are solid; he has recorded 1.85 tackles and 1.17 interceptions per 90 minutes this season. On top of that, his high passing accuracy of 91% in the Champions League proves he can handle the pressure of top-tier football. Since both English clubs want to add more depth out wide, this transfer battle will likely heat up once the domestic seasons conclude.

Would Joaquin Seys solve the tactical puzzle at the Emirates?

Mikel Arteta consistently demands technical skill and flexibility from his defenders, and Joaquin Seys comes close to the Arsenal profile perfectly because he can tuck inside or provide traditional width. While the Gunners currently use Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié as primary options on the left, constant injury concerns surrounding the squad mean they need another high-quality rotation piece. Seys provides youth and experience, having already played over 2,400 minutes of competitive action this term while maintaining a solid 7.05 FotMob rating.

Mikel Arteta set to be sacked after loss against Man City? – Here are the details

The Belgian’s ability to help out in possession is clear from the stats, as he ranks highly for chances created compared to other fullbacks in his league. If the North London club lands him, they gain a player who averages 2.80 clearances per game, ensuring they remain defensively sound on the break.

Although Manchester United will be tough to beat to his signature, the appeal of the current project under Arteta might prove more enticing for a player eager to win silverware immediately. Adding Seys would allow Arsenal to keep pushing for domestic and European trophies without losing any quality when starters need a rest.
