Former Arsenal man is ready to take Manchester United job

transfer news

Manchester United find themselves at a crossroads this spring as the front office weighs up who should lead the team long-term. After Ruben Amorim left in January, the club brought in Michael Carrick to steady the ship as an interim.

While results under the former midfielder have sparked some real optimism, the board is being careful about making a permanent hire before the summer. This period of transition has naturally started a lot of rumours about world-class managers who have the tactical brains to lead such a big club. Fans want a leader who sticks to the club’s attacking roots while also keeping things solid at the back.

The Italian Connection: Materazzi on Fàbregas

A fascinating report has emerged from former Italy defender Marco Materazzi, who suggests that Cesc Fàbregas would be open to a move to Old Trafford. Speaking to Hajper via ESPN, Materazzi stated that if Manchester United asked the Spaniard, he would certainly think about it.

Fàbregas currently manages Como in Serie A and has done an incredible job, guiding them into the top four and a potential Champions League spot. The 38-year-old former Spanish international, who earned 110 caps for his country, has quickly built a reputation as one of the most exciting young coaches in Europe.

According to the 2025/26 season stats from Footystats, his Como side have secured 20 wins, 10 draws, and only 5 losses across 35 matches, maintaining a solid 2.00 points per match average. Materazzi acknowledged that while Fàbregas has strong ties to Arsenal and Chelsea, the Manchester United job is simply too big to ignore. However, the Italian also noted that Fàbregas might prefer to stay one more year at Como to see his project through to the Champions League.

Should Manchester United Turn to an Arsenal Legend for the Future?

The idea of Fàbregas joining United is an interesting one because his style is all about keeping the ball and quick transitions in a 4-2-3-1. He has a brilliant football mind, but his lack of experience managing in the Premier League is a clear downside compared to someone like Julian Nagelsmann. Realistically, I think United will stick with Michael Carrick for the summer if he finishes in the top four, as the stability he offers is worth more than the risk of hiring another young manager.

Arsenal And Top European Giants Battle To Sign This Prolific German Under 21 Star

United don’t necessarily need Fàbregas right now; they either need a proven heavyweight or to keep the momentum going under Carrick. Come summer, I expect the club to pick experience over potential unless Carrick fails to qualify for Europe. While Fàbregas is a genius, his arrival would likely just upset Arsenal fans without guaranteeing any immediate trophies at Old Trafford.
