Brighton vs Liverpool: Talking Points, Champions Luck Or Just Good Play?

Liverpool pipped Brighton 1-0 in their recent Premier League fixture as Jurgen Klopp’s men found their way back to winning ways courtesy of a solitary goal from Mohammed Salah. The Reds faced their first defeat in the league campaign last time out against Manchester City. Klopp’s men lost a bit of momentum from that defeat as even the gap was reduced to four points, they were also knocked out of the FA Cup recently.

It was looking like they were up for another frustrating fixture against the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium as they were made to toil hard to break the deadlock. The spark that Liverpool needed came through Mohammed Salah and his subsequent penalty gave Liverpool a firm grip on the top of the ladder for the time being.

Can Mo Salah bag the Premier League top scorer award?

It was a dull outing for the Reds as they looked out of ideas completely and Chris Hughton’s Brighton were almost able to churn out a great draw for themselves. But then came Salah with his moment of magic as he was brought down in the box and the Egyptian made no mistake to slot the subsequent penalty home and hand Liverpool an important three points.

Salah have now 17 goals in all competitions with 14 goals coming in the league, the Egyptian talisman is currently leading the top scorers’ charts and is en route to win the Golden Boot award for the season. However, it is pretty obvious that he currently has his eyes on one trophy- the Premier League title.

Chris Hughton came up with a lesson in defensive organisation

Liverpool are currently one of the most devastating sides and with their attacking prowess, it is hard for any defence to hold them for an entire match. Brighton manager, Chris Hughton almost achieved that feat on the night.

The Seagulls were instructed to hold their shape at any circumstances and make it difficult for the Reds to break them down. They made Liverpool toil hard in search for an opening in the back-line and with time they managed to take the sting out of their attack. Hughton advised his men to keep pressing high and collectively and not to allow them time on the ball and to remain absolutely alert all the time.

Liverpool ended the game with all three points but Brighton’s defensive organisation made them work very hard and almost earned a point from the fixture and for that effort, the Seagulls and their manager deserve the credit.

Title race intensifies as City takes on Wolves in a tricky fixture

With Liverpool’s win over Brighton, it is now up to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to win and keep pace with their counterparts in the intense title race. The Reds are currently seven points clear and though the Cityzens have a match in hand, there is going to be a lot of pressure on them to close the gap again. On top on that Manchester City play Wolves and as we all know Nuno Espirito Santo’s side is one of the most unpredictable sides in the league. They have knocked out Liverpool from the FA Cup recently. Plus when these both teams met in the reverse fixture the Wolves fought gallantly coming up with a 1-1 draw against Pep Guardiola’s side.

So it will be interesting to see how both the sides fare and whether Pep Guardiola’s men managed to hold their nerves and come out with a win against the Wolves or will it be Nuno Espirito Santo having the last laugh on the night.
