According to the latest reports, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed that he is still unsure regarding star winger Willian’s future at the club as the January transfer window still has two weeks until it shuts. Willian scored the winning goal for Chelsea against Newcastle United and that helped Chelsea earn all three points against Rafael Benitez’ side but interest from La Liga side Barcelona will grow as they plan on winning the Champions League, a trophy won by their fierce rivals Real Madrid three times in a row over the past three years.
Ever since taking over as manager of Chelsea football club back in the summer of 2018, Maurizio Sarri has done an admirable job.
The former Napoli master tactician took over from fellow Italian Antonio Conte and has received plenty of praise and plaudits from many pundits and fans from all across the globe for his attacking and beautiful style of football. Chelsea earned a hard-fought narrow win against Newcastle United this weekend as Willian scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory with a lovely curling finish.
Chelsea tightened their grip on fourth place with the win as they went six points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal and moved in just one point behind Tottenham Hotspur who are in third place. The Blues are also in the semi-finals of the League Cup and went through their Europa League group stage unscathed. But there are still some missing links in the Chelsea squad who are still keen on winning some silverware and earning a top 4 spot to play Champions League football next season.
Chelsea decided to sell Fabregas earlier this week to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco as the Spaniard was unable to find a regular spot in Sarri’s midfield system. One more player who seems to be leaving Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window is Brazilian superstar Willian who has publicly revealed that it is his dream to play for La Liga giants Barcelona one day. The stellar winger arrived at West London from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala in a £30m deal back in 2013 and became an instant hit at the English capital.
Since joining Chelsea Willian has helped the Blues to win two Premier League titles, one League Cup and one FA Cup but has been subject to transfer rumors this month as La Liga champions Barcelona continue their hunt for a star winger. The 30-year-old Willian has scored five goals and notched up three assists in all competitions so far and is eager to join the Camp Nou before his career comes to the twilight stages.
Even Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri wasn’t sure of Willian’s future when he was asked about the attacker’s future in a chat with talkSport although he wanted Willian to remain at the club. The 59-year-old said, “I am not able to understand the market because I’m not in charge of the market. Of course, I can only tell you my opinion. My opinion is Willian is a very important player for us. So, I would prefer him to stay here with us. You know the qualities of Willian very well and the goal is a part of his qualities.”
