It was a really good win for the home side against Crystal Palace at Anfield, as they snatched the win in the second period, after trailing at half-time. The visitors looked the better team in the opening 45 and though Jurgen Klopp’s side was dominating the possession, the Eagles lead from an Andros Townsend goal set up by Zaha.
However, the hosts started off the second period strongly and never looked back as Mo Salah made it 1-1. After that Firmino made it 2-1, with Tomkins equalizing in the 65th minute. Salah gave his team the lead once again in the 75th minute and Mane scored a 4th in the 93rd, with Max Meyer getting a mere consolation in the 95th. It eventually ended with a scoreline of 4-3 and this was the second game in the day, with 7 goals.
However, Liverpool fans will not be too delighted with the result. Here’s why-
Milner Red Card-
The red card that James Milner received towards the end of full-time will not be pleasing to watch for any Reds’ fan. The Merseyside outfit really need the services of the veteran midfielder, who can play even at the back. Despite that, the former England international picked up a couple of yellows in quick succession and was off. This might hurt the German manager’s side in the near future, with the Champions League Round of 16 clashes against Bayern Munich coming up.
Narrow Win-
It wasn’t a convincing win and yes though Liverpool managed to take back all three points, they would have liked to do better. They have been playing really well in recent times and though this hard-fought win was a symbol of their team-spirit, they would have wanted to take back a more convincing win. Surely the credit goes to the visitors as well for having a plan and playing accordingly.
Poor Defending-
Conceding three goals in any game is bad, even if you win that match. The Reds know that they have problems at the back and their make-shift defence at present, can really use some major improvements. James Milner, who was playing as a right-back was also sent off, which shows that the team were in trouble at times and there needs to be more solidity shown by the back-line, if they are to beat the likes of Bayern Munich in the upcoming fixtures of the Champions League.
Fabinho Injury-
The injury to Brazilian international Fabinho in the second half, would be once causing the major concern. Though the seriousness of the injury is still not known and it can possibly just be fatigue, the German manager will be hoping that the player is fit in time for the upcoming crucial fixtures. He has made a name for himself in front of the Anfield faithful and his versatile play has helped the team quite a bit.
Due to this, the manager and the supporters will hope that he is back to the team and fast. They will need every possible defensive star against Bayern, with Van Dijk suspended for the first leg of the tie.
