Manchester United goalie David De Gea is said to be demanding a new £350,000-a-week contract if he is to commit to his future at Old Trafford. United triggered a one year extension in the goalkeeper’s present contract in November last year to prevent the Spanish international to talk to other clubs. De Gea, who has been at the helm of the club for sometime believes, he deserves a sizeable rise from his current £200,000-a-week deal given a matter of fact that he has proved to be one of the world’s finest shot stopper of this generation.
The Spaniard has been in top form in the past few seasons proving to be one of the very few United’s consistent players in the seasons of crisis. United have relied on his instincts and reflexes to sail through quite few matches. He is keen to remain at the club at his best years but will only do so if United prove their loyalty to him by offering him the £350,000-a-week deal which he deserves. The 28 year old’s advisers previously revealed that De Gea deserves to get a higher pay roll after United agreed to make Sanchez the Premier League’s highest-paid player when he arrived from Arsenal at £500,00 per week. Additionally, The Chilean forward also banks a further £75,000 for every appearance.
Apart from Sanchez, French winger, Anthony Martial was also handed a new 5 year contract a week before the PSG tie. Centre back Phil Jones and defensive partner Ashley Young also got new contracts before the crucial PSG tie. De Gea was quite a sensation in the transfer market two seasons ago when Real Madrid made a pursuit for the Spanish international. However, United’s bargaining position was strengthened when Real Madrid paid Chelsea £35m for Thibaut Courtois last summer.
Nevertheless, it is expected that the Spaniard will not have any shortage of options provided De Gea decides to leave the club. The likes of Paris St. Germain and Juventus have been as known suitors since long time. It is important for United to secure the services of the The Spaniard if it realizes it needs to get back as a European powerhouse, for De Gea has been the most consistent player saving United time and again from misery.
With the way that the Red Devils are playing at present, there is a strong possibility that the Spaniard will extend his stay at Old Trafford. However, nothing is certain in the world of football and it is not done, till it is actually done. The fans will be hoping that the goalie who has been their best player over the years, decides to remain with the Manchester based side.
However, there are surely some big offers coming in for his services and it will be interesting to see now how things develop in the long-run. He was keen on an exit a couple of years ago during Louis Van Gaal, though those claims have died down in recent times. Despite that, he might make his final decision with regards to this contract extension in the summer.
