Talking Points: Dynamo Kyiv Vs Chelsea, As Blues Destroy Rivals Away From Home

Olivier Giroud

A dynamic display from the Chelsea side as the Blues outplayed Dynamo Kyiv in all departments of the game with a thumping 0-5 scoreline on the night. The result was never in doubt as Maurizio Sarri’s men were dominant over their Ukrainian opponents right from the start. It was a brilliant start to the game by Olivier Giroud as the Frenchman opened the scoring in the fifth minute. He continued his sparkling form and completed a perfect hat-trick on the night with Marcus Alonso and Callum Hudson-Odoi also chipping in with a goal each. The Blues go through to the quarterfinals of the Europa League with an 8-0 aggregate scoreline against Kyiv.

Alyaksandr Khatskevich’s men had no fight in them

There was hardly any improvement for the Ukrainians compared to the first leg. Chelsea hardly broke a sweat and literally had a stroll past them. Dynamo Kyiv had a tough task in hand against a Premier League side but the Ukrainian gave a very naive account of themselves as they had hardly any desire of at least putting up a fight. It seemed Alyaksandr Khatskevich’s have already given up hopes in front of the dominant Chelsea side.

Kyiv fought their way past to this stage in the Europa League and a better fight was expected from the Ukrainian as they failed to score once in the whole tie. They were posing some threat in the first leg but here were totally down and out.

Sarri’s young brigade showing their magic

The Italian rotated the squad fair bit and allowed the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Andreas Christensen and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to start against in the Europa League fixture. The trio performed exceptionally well and exceeded the expectation of the Chelsea boss. Callum Hudson-Odoi was a threat on the right flank from the start and the Kyiv defenders simply struggled to cope up with his blistering pace. The youngster in his seventh start for the Blues contributed for the third goal on the night by assisting Alonso. He switched duties when Giroud found Hudson-Odoi in the box and the youngster calmly slotted in the fourth goal of the night.

However, the most enigmatic performance was of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, as the youngster when in form can add terrific dynamism to any midfield. He is physical, he is hardworking and really puts in a shift for the team. Sarri was really impressed with his technicality and tactical understanding and considers him a player who is progressing with time under his tutelage.

Olivier Giroud’s five-star performance for Chelsea.

The Frenchman scored a perfect hat-trick against Kyiv on the night, one with either foot and a header. Giroud despite winning the World Cup and being one of the most dependable Premier League strikers is still a bench warmer at Stamford Bridge. yet whenever he is called upon to start on come in as a substitute the Frenchman has not disappointed Maurizio Sarri. The Italian feels he is a very vital cog in the team and his prowess of scoring goals in crucial matches have helped the team in the past and will do the same in future.

The Frenchman also turned orchestrator when he played the ball tot he byline to Hudson-Odoi and the youngster’s following cross in the box was scored by Alonso for the third goal of the night. Giroud also assisted the Youngster for his only goal on the night, proving that if needed he can drop deep and create chances for his teammates.
