According to the latest reports, Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is set to join Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain in the upcoming summer transfer window. The news comes as a shocker as but Herrera could be influenced by the wages that he is reportedly bound to receive at the Parc Des Princes if he does make a move to Paris.
Manchester United fans went through quite a torrid time at the start of the season when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club. The Portuguese manager instilled a very defensive philosophy into the club which was not really appreciated by the United faithful. The air around Old Trafford was getting toxic because of the negative and dire football. With no results to back up those poor performances, the writing was on the wall for Mourinho. Fierce rivals Liverpool delivered the hammer blow in Mourinho’s coffin after a 3-1 humiliation at Anfield back in December and the 56-year-old was given the sack just a few days later.
The Red Devils then turned to a familiar face in the form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was given the keys until at least the end of the season to bring some stability at the club. But the Norwegian has exceeded expectations since taking over and has put himself in contention for getting the job on a permanent basis. Solskjaer helped United reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League after overcoming a 2-0 deficit against Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain only to win 3-1 in Paris and progress through to the next round of the competition.
United are also sitting in fifth place on the League table at the moment and are in the hunt to finish in the top four this season. Almost every player at United looks rejuvenated under Solskjaer but there have been some troubling news coming out of reports today.
Some reports claim that Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera is set to join French champions Paris Saint Germain at the end of the season after agreeing to a verbal transfer move. Herrera was showing signs of getting back to his best after impressive performances under Solskjaer and was set to sign a new deal as his current one expires at the end of this term. Following a series of talks though, Herrera has now activated the option to speaking to other clubs for a probable transfer in the summer.
According to the Sun, Herrera has already accepted an offer from Paris Saint Germain and will join the European giants at the end of the season. The 29-year-old is set to receive a massive wage hike as he will leave Old Trafford on a free transfer. It is reported that PSG will offer Herrera a four-year contract which will see him make a staggering £150,000 a week which was more than he would make at United if he signed a contract extension. If a move to PSG does go through, Herrera will also look to make himself a regular at the club, something he wasn’t able to do at Manchester United.
