According to the latest reports, Manchester United will now face competition from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Englishman’s value in the transfer market is on the rise though following his impressive display for his country and club in the current campaign.
Manchester United went through quite a torrid time at the start of the new season when they had Jose Mourinho in charge of the club. The Portuguese manager did not get his defensive transfer targets in the summer and went on to instill his negative tactics at Manchester United. Football with no ambition and conviction was not something that the United faithful were used to seeing at Old Trafford.
With dire football and no results to back up the performances, the writing was on the wall for Jose Mourinho. A 3-1 humiliation at the hands of fierce rivals Liverpool back in December was the final nail in the coffin for Mourinho’s managerial career and he was fired just a few days later.
Manchester United then looked towards a familiar face in the form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to take the reins and stabilize the club at least until the end of the season. The Norwegian though has exceeded expectations and brought smiles back onto the faces of the United fans. Solskjaer has won 14 out of his first 19 games in charge of Manchester United and got them back into the race for a top 4 spot.
The Red Devils also completed a dramatic come-back against Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain to book their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. United overcame a 2-0 deficit to win 3-1 at the Parc Des Princes and reach the quarter-finals on the away goals rule. Solskjaer has now made himself the prime candidate to take over the job on a permanent role at the end of the season and he has decided that he wants to bolster his side’s attack in order to compete for trophies in the near future.
One of the hottest properties in Europe at the moment is Borussia Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho. The Englishman has already scored nine times and notched up 12 assists across all competitions this season attracting a lot of interest from the top clubs in the continent. Sancho has been linked with a move away from Dortmund in the summer but the Bundesliga outfit is not keen on selling their prized asset. The German table toppers have slapped a £70m price tag on Sancho who is about to turn 19 on Monday.
The 18-year-old made his debut for the Three Lions last night when England took on the Czech Republic in the Euro 2020 qualifiers at Wembley. Sancho grabbed an assist as well as England completed a 5-0 hammering of their opponents. However, this is only going to raise the price on Sancho’s market value and Manchester United will now also have to worry about cash-rich French champions Paris Saint Germain, who are also monitoring Sancho’s situation.
