According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Arsenal are keen on signing Charlton Athletic midfielder Joe Aribo in the upcoming summer transfer window. The English star has been taking the League One by storm and has impressed quite a few Premier League clubs this season and Arsenal are monitoring his situation.
Ever since taking charge of Arsenal football club back in the summer of 2018, Unai Emery has done quite an impressive job by replacing legendary predecessor Arsene Wenger. The 69-year-old Wenger was in charge of the North London club for 22 long years and won plenty of major honors with the Arsenal including three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups as well. Wenger got Arsenal their own brand of football through his philosophy and got the London giants competing once again.
However, towards the latter stages of his career, his tactics seemed outdated as the younger generation of managers was able to outwit and outthink Wenger as his football became predictable. Arsenal became quite stagnant and Wenger received plenty of abuse from the clubs, faithful supporters, as well. Wenger finally decided to end his managerial career at Arsenal last season as he stepped down from a post that needed some new life.
Unai Emery was the man who stepped in and he has breathed fresh life into the Arsenal stamping his authority and philosophy into the Arsenal team. The Spaniard had aided Arsenal to a 22 game unbeaten streak this season across all competitions and the Gunners are currently sitting in fourth place on the Premier League table in the hot seat for a Champions League berth. Arsenal also made it into the quarterfinals of the Europa League and will now face a much anticipated two-legged tie against Serie A side Napoli in the coming weeks.
The 47-year-old Emery also decided who will be in his plans for the future and has not been shy in telling off a few players that they will no longer be at the club. Jack Wilshere departed last summer and another midfielder in the form of Aaron Ramsey will leave the Emirates in the upcoming summer window. Emery is also aware that he still needs re-enforcements in certain areas of the pitch if he wants to win silverware with Arsenal in the near future and after the failed signing of Denis Suarez, he wants to try out some English midfielders.
With the departure of a few key midfielders from the club on the cards, Emery now wants to add some dynamism and fresh legs and is targeting Charlton Athletic midfielder Joe Aribo in the summer of a free transfer deal. Aribo is an elegant left-footed midfielder who can score goals and provide quality passes in the attacking third as well. The 22-year-old has already scored six times this season and notched up one assist to his name. However, Portuguese side Benfica and even German club Eintracht Frankfurt are looking to snap up the midfielder and Arsenal will have a competition to sign the Aribo in the next few months.
