According to the latest reports, the Premier League duo of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to sign Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon in the upcoming summer transfer window. The two English giants will compete against each other to sign the talented English wonder kid who seems out of place at Fulham, in the opinion of Paul Merson.
The summer transfer window is nearing with each passing day and clubs are planning out their strategies on whom to sign in order for the betterment of their respective squads. Even the race for a top-four battle surges on with four clubs in the thick of it at the moment. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are still strong contenders to make the other two spots in the top four as Liverpool and Manchester City have locked horns with each other for the Premiership title.
Unai Emery has done a wonderful job with Arsenal since taking charge of the club back in the summer of 2018 by replacing the legendary Arsene Wenger and has guided Arsenal to fifth place in the Premier League table and in the fight for a top-four spot. The Gunners are also in the quarterfinals of the Europa League and look well equipped to go on and win the tournament as well. However, there are a few players that need to leave the Emirates for reinforcements to arrive in the summer and Arsenal need to strengthen their backline if they are going to compete for trophies in the near future.
Even Arsenal’s local neighbors Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign a few top quality players in the summer after not making any signings over the course of two transfer windows. Spurs have just moved into their new stadium and will have to spend big on players now as they have to add some gloss to their trophy cabinet. Mauricio Pochettino will also be looking for some transfer budget in order to make the best possible use of the transfer window.
One player who has been on the radar of the two London clubs is Fulham star defender Ryan Sessegnon as the teenager is tipped for a move away from Craven Cottage in the summer. Fulham have already been relegated from the Premier League and will play in the Championship next season but Sessegnon could be picked up by a top club. The 18-year-old scored twice and also got six assists so far in his debut English top-flight campaign, however, Arsenal legend Paul Merson does not believe that Sessegnon could be worth £40m.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the pundit said: “I would be surprised [if someone paid £40m for Sessegnon], I think last season you would have got £40m for him. Not playing in the Premier League. Potential. Very good in the Championship. He has come up and if I am being honest, he looks like he does not feel like he should be there. He looked a bit lost sometimes. I know he is only 18 and he’s a kid, but I don’t think he has shown anything all season.”
But Sessegnon does have the potential which is why Tottenham and Arsenal are looking to bid for the teenage defender.
