According to the latest reports, there has been plenty of interest from several suitors across the European continent over the signing of Liverpool right-back Rafael Camacho. The 18-year-old Portuguese star has been quite a sensation for the Reds and a prospect to look forward to in the near future.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is currently enjoying their best season in the English Premier League ever since the club was formed back in 1892. The Reds currently sit at the top of the Premier League table and are two points ahead of second-placed rivals Manchester City at the moment. Although Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City still have a game in hand, Liverpool has done incredibly well to still remain in the hunt for the Premiership this season. Last season, Manchester City broke multiple records when they stormed their way to the title amassing 100 points in the process. Liverpool is ensuring that this season’s title race will go down to the wire as the keep the pressure on their fierce rivals for the last few games of the campaign.
The Reds have also made it to the quarterfinals of the Champions League and taken a 2-0 advantage in the first leg of the tie against FC Porto at Anfield to try and make it to the semi-finals of the competition. But one area that Klopp has thoroughly addressed is Liverpool’s defensive line which used to have holes all over them a few seasons ago.
With the arrival of Van Dijk, the Dutchman has made everyone else better around him including the likes of young English right back Trent Alexander Arnold. It’s astonishing to watch the 20-year-old play with a maturity beyond his years as he has also scored a goal and got seven assists this season. Klopp enjoys giving youth responsibility and there is another high quality right back waiting in the ranks for his chance at the moment.
18-year-old Rafael Camacho has been impressive for Liverpool in the U-23s and among their other ranks, as he has scored five goals and also assisted five more in 12 appearances for his club. The Portuguese U-20 defender has some serious pace and also the passing qualities of a midfielder. Camacho has great control of the ball and he is also good in tight spaces on the pitch along with his game awareness, he is certainly one for the future at Liverpool football club. The problem is that Camacho has just one more year left on his current contract with the Merseyside club and with interest from RB Leipzig, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Benfica and Sporting as well, Liverpool may look to sell him for a profit in the summer rather than extend his contract.
Nathaniel Clyne is also spending a loan stint at Bournemouth at the moment and will return to Anfield next season. English veteran James Milner can also be deputized in the right-back zone when called upon but the 33-year-old is also coming toward the end of his contract. Therefore, Camacho seems to be the right option for the future and can provide a stiff starting berth competition for Alexander Arnold.
