Sarri Still Content With His Chelsea Side’s Performance Despite Liverpool Defeat, Here’s What He Said

According to the latest reports, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed that he is content with the performance that the Blues put in against Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield. The Reds managed to score two goals in the second half through Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to earn three points and the visitors left behind London with nothing.

The Story Of The Game That Chelsea Lost To Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool resurfaced at the top of the Premier League table after Manchester City occupied the top spot for a couple of hours on Sunday. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City travelled to Selhurst Park early on Sunday and returned to Manchester with all three points after a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, but Liverpool ensured that by the end of the weekend they had taken over as leaders of the English pack, even though the blue half of Manchester still have a game in hand. Liverpool welcomed Chelsea later on in Sunday’s late kickoff and piled the pressure back on Manchester City by taking a two-point lead with four games left in the campaign.

Chelsea arrived at Anfield on Sunday trying to spoil the party for Liverpool but initially kept the hosts in check and frustrated them for the first 45 minutes of the game. Maurizio Sarri’s game plan seemed to be working as Chelsea were looking to play on the counter with Belgian superstar Eden Hazard as the focal point of the attack.

The Blues couldn’t handle the intense pressure from the title-challenging Liverpool. They were weak into the second period. Just five minutes into the second half the deadlock was broken when Sadio Mane headed in from close range. Former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah came back to haunt the West Londoners as he fired in a superb effort from long range to double Liverpool’s advantage.

Maurizio Sarri Was Unhappy But Still Had Some Positives To Highlight After The Game

Soon after going two goals behind, Sarri changed his system. Eden Hazard had two glorious chances in quick succession. That was to pull back the game. However, he couldn’t take them. The game ended with the result remaining 2-0. Chelsea remains in fourth place at the moment. Their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League suffered another dent. That is as their rivals around them in the table have a game in hand.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri was still content with the effort his side had put. That was in such a hostile atmosphere on Sunday. The 60-year-old chose to take the positives from the game. While speaking to Sky Sports, the former Napoli boss said that he was happy to remain in the game for 50 minutes: “We played a good match against wonderful opponents. We stayed in the match for 50 minutes. After the second goal – a shocking goal in a good way for them. But not for us – we reacted.”

Sarri went on to explain that things might have ended up differently had Chelsea taken their chances: “We had two or three opportunities to score after the second goal. That was with Eden and Higuain. We were not lucky for sure. We hit the post for the 35th time in our season. Probably at this moment, they are better than us. But we are going the right way. We are improving. Three months ago, we were not able to stay in the match.”
