According to the latest reports, Premier League clubs Manchester United and Arsenal are prepared to battle it out for signing Ajax forward David Neres in the upcoming summer transfer window. The youngster is impressing heavily at the Dutch club and attracting interest from several top suitors on the European continent.
Manchester United seem to be in a different place altogether just four months after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge. The Norwegian replaced his predecessor Jose Mourinho at the helm and has brought smiles back on the faces of the Manchester United faithful after the ‘Special One’ got sack. Football was dire and lacking conviction when 56-year-old was in charge and the writing was on the wall as Mourinho left United in a shambles back in December. Solskjaer helped United into the quarter-finals of the Champions League but eventually got knocked out by La Liga giants Barcelona. The 46-year-old though strung up a bunch of positive results in the Premier League and has put the Red Devils in contention to finish inside the top four in the Premier League table. Those results gave Solskjaer the job on a permanent basis but he knows he needs reinforcements in the summer transfer window if he wants to build a team that can compete for silverware in the near future.
Solskjaer wants to bolster his attacking options and is looking to sign a winger who can add goals as well as contribute with assists. Recent reports have now claimed that Manchester United are keeping tabs on Ajax star winger David Neres, who has been sensational for the Dutch side this season. Neres has scored 14 goals already this season and also notched up 10 assists for Ajax across all competitions, making him one of the most wanted players on the European continent.
The 22-year-old scored a crucial goal against Juventus in the first leg of the Champions League tie to put Ajax on level terms and eventually also helped them get through to the semi-finals of the tournament as well. Neres has not only been catching the eye of Manchester United but even other Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on making a move for him in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal are desperate for a wide player who can provide an outlet on the flanks and Unai Emery may look to purchase Neres if he comes at a cut cost price The North London outfit wants to make some signings that will bolster their attacking department for the upcoming season. Neres still has three years left on his current deal with Ajax but the Eredivisie club will look for offers to sell him if the price is right.

Manchester United are currently preparing to make an offer in the range of around £45m in the summer to lure him to the Theatre of Dreams. Arsenal will also be in the hunt to sign Neres but Emery will be on a budget and may not be able to splash a hefty sum on the Brazilian winger.
