According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Liverpool are keen on signing Houssem Aouer in the upcoming summer transfer window to bolster their squad. The French midfielder has been catching the eye of several top clubs on the European continent and he could be the missing link for Liverpool in their midfield department.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is currently enjoying one of their best ever seasons in the Premier League ever since the club formed as they sit at the summit of the English table two points ahead of second-placed Manchester City. Although Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City still have a game in hand, Liverpool have done exceptionally well to remain in close contention with the blue half of Manchester so far. Last season, Manchester City smashed plenty of records as they stormed their way to the Premier League title, amassing a staggering 100 points in the process. But Liverpool is adamant to ensure that this season’s title race will go right down to the wire as Klopp’s outfit are prepared to fight until the last game of the season.

Liverpool have also made it to the Champions League semi-finals and face a much-anticipated clash against La Liga giants Barcelona over two legs in the upcoming weeks. The Merseyside club look like a well-oiled unit that could go on to win the Champions League after stuttering at the final hurdle last season. However, Klopp is already preparing for next season if Liverpool fail to win any silverware this term to add more depth to his already formidable side.

One area that Liverpool have not managed to find the best out of is the link between the midfielders and the attackers. Naby Keita has not managed to live up to the hype and expectation that was built up and with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out injured, Liverpool have lacked that spark in midfield. Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho have contributed but none of them really have the quality to unlock tight defenses in crunch games or add goals from their position.

To strengthen his midfield department even further, Klopp is now looking to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouer in the upcoming summer transfer window as the German believes that 20-year-old could be the missing link in his squad.

The French midfielder has had an impressive campaign this season for Lyon as he has netted seven times and also notched up four assists. There are several top suitors that are looking to snap up Aouer in the summer but Liverpool are now stepping up their interest. Aouer has the creativity and hard work traits that Klopp desires in a player and his arrival at Anfield could make Liverpool an even more dynamic club.

At just 20 years of age, Aouer has the potential and ability of a top player, he is also versatile and can play as a box-to-box midfielder, a play-maker, a deep-lying midfielder or even on the flanks and that is also a positive trait if Liverpool wish to bring him to the Premier League.
