According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Manchester United have identified a replacement for their star goalkeeper David De Gea in the upcoming summer transfer window in the form of Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak. The Spanish superstar has not been his usual self in Manchester this season and reports claim that his head is not in the right place with the potential of a transfer looming.
Manchester United were in dire straits under Jose Mourinho’s rein when the Portuguese manager was unable to rack up wins and performances with the English giants and was given the sack in December. United then turned to a familiar face in the form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to handle the club as a caretaker at least until the end of the season. However, the 46-year-old exceeded expectations at Old Trafford in his initial few games and was handed the job on a permanent basis.
Solskjaer guided Manchester United to the quarter finals of the Champions League after overcoming Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain in dramatic fashion. United overturned a 2-0 deficit to win 3-1 at the Parc Des Princes and progress through to the next round of the elite competition. The Red Devils also strung together a bunch of positive results in the Premier League which have now helped them compete for a top four spot.
Since Solskjaer’s permanent appointment, United have lost their last six games out of eight in all competitions. United were dumped out of the Champions League by Barcelona in a humiliating 4-0 aggregate scoreline and were also handed defeats by Everton and Manchester City over their last two Premier League clashes. This has now put United’s top four hopes in jeopardy and there are three top players who could consider leaving Old Trafford if United are unable to play in the Champions League next season.
One of those players is Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea as the shot stopper’s form has declined drastically over the last few months. De Gea is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world but his silly errors in the recent past have certainly stripped him out of that category. The Spanish Number 1 is reportedly looking for a move back to Madrid with Los Blancos also keen on his signature. De Gea has kept United alive in plenty of games before in the past but it seems like his head has now turned because he is refusing to sign a contract extension at the Theatre Of Dreams and the Red Devils need to look for a replacement.

Reports claim that United are considering a move for Slovenian star Jan Oblak in the summer as a possible replacement for De Gea. The 26-year-old is not a downgrade to De Gea and Oblak is also considered one of the best keepers in the world. United are preparing to sell De Gea for about £90m in the summer window but the issue with luring Oblak is that he has signed a contract with Atletico Madrid until 2023 and his release clause will be over £100m.
