What The Manchester United Boss Said? Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated that he is hurt by the defeat against Manchester City in the derby on Wednesday night. He agreed with Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane. The former Irish Manchester United midfielder took a jibe at players like Fred. He went ahead, labelling him a ‘cheat’ for the performance that he put in during the clash against Manchester City.
What Was The Whole Story Of The Game?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the reins from Jose Mourinho back in December when Manchester United appointed him as the caretaker of the club to stabilize the sinking ship. The 46-year-old exceeded expectations and was allowed to take the job on a permanent basis as United offered him a three-year contract. However, the results have not been as desired off late for Solskjaer as United have lost seven of their last nine games across all competitions. The Red Devils were dumped out of the Champions League against Barcelona in a humiliating 4-0 aggregate scoreline over two legs and Everton also added to their misery last weekend with a 4-0 thrashing.
United had the chance to derail Manchester City’s title aspirations on Wednesday night when their noisy neighbours made the trip to Old Trafford. However, two goals in the second half from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane helped Pep Guardiola’s side to three more points. United have come under criticism off late from former club players as former club captain Roy Keane made a few scathing remarks about the players. The 47-year-old Keane blasted Fred as a ‘cheat’ and also stated that the Manchester United players threw former manager Jose Mourinho ‘under the bus’ and could do so with Solskjaer as well.
The Comments Made By The Manchester United Boss
However, Solskjaer later admitted that he feels the same pain as Keane. He added that he values his former colleague’s opinion. In a press conference, the Norwegian said, “With Roy, I have always had a great relationship with him. And, what do you say? I value his opinion very highly. He has got his opinion. We have played together for many, many years. He is a Man United guy. And he hurts just as much as anyone else connected to us. That we are as far behind City as we are.“

However, Solskjaer took responsibility on his own shoulders. He explained that he will try his best to ensure that Manchester United start competing for honours once again from next season, “And that is my job. To make sure when we come back for pre-season that I have the right characters in and around [the squad]. Because that should never be allowed. Because when you are at Man United the spotlight will be on you. The headlines and you have got to make sure you come into work every single day. With the effort they gave today. That is your duty.”
United now face an uphill battle to finish inside the Champions League spots. That is as they sit in sixth place in the Premier League table. The red half of Manchester was completely outplayed by Manchester City. The gulf in class was visible. City now are 25 points ahead of Manchester United. They are looking to crown themselves as champions of England for the second year running.
