According to the latest reports, Paris Saint Germain superstar Thomas Meunier has admitted that he would like to play football in the English Premier League amid interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen to make summer signings in the upcoming transfer window and are monitoring the situation for the Belgian international right back.
Ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge of Manchester United as care-taker back in December, he has done a tremendous job at the helm. The Norwegian replaced his predecessor Jose Mourinho, who had left the club in a toxic situation, but Solskjaer turned his fortunes at Old Trafford. Manchester United made it to the quarter finals of the Champions League after a dramatic comeback against Paris Saint-Germain after trailing 2-0 and winning 3-1 at the Parc Des Princes. United are also competing for a top-four spot in the Premier League to be eligible to play Champions League football for next season.
Initially, Solskjaer worked wonders at Old Trafford after his immediate appointment and turned his fortunes to the club. This gave the United board faith that he could manage the club permanently and Solskjaer was handed a three-year contract. But results haven’t really gone Manchester United’s way over the last 10 games or so as they were eliminated from the Champions League by Barcelona and also suffered a few setbacks in the Premier League race for the top four.
Solskjaer is well aware that he needs to reinforce his squad in the upcoming summer transfer window and bring in players that could help the team. One area that 46-year-old has to strengthen is the right back zone because it looks like a place where United get exposed quite often. Ashley Young has come under heavy criticism over the past few seasons for his performances in the defensive position while Antonio Valencia’s contract expires at the end of the summer. Diogo Dalot is still relatively inexperienced and Matteo Darmian is also on the exit door at Old Trafford this summer.
However, United are now keeping close tabs on Paris Saint Germain’s right back Thomas Meunier as the Belgian is keen on a move away from the Parc des Prince. Apart from the Red Devils, their fierce domestic rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are also keen on adding the Belgian international to their current squad.
In a recent interview with L’Avenir, the 27-year-old insisted that he is interested in playing football in England. He said, “Yes, but not only there, but it also comes from everywhere. Even from China or the Middle East.”

Meunier has lacked regular football with the French outfit and with his contract expiring in 2020, he added, “I never hid it [Premier League interest]. The discussions with management are hanging around a bit. I can understand because of the deadlines of the team that my personal case was put in the fridge, but since then nothing has happened, the message seems clear enough. It would annoy me a little if it ends like that, without having the opportunity to finish beautifully. It is true, I had a rough season, but the title is still a title and I am very happy. You know, even if I only took part in four or five matches in 2019, my stats, offensive and defensive, are among the best in the PSG defence alongside [Juan] Bernat’s.”
