It has been confirmed that Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be sharing the Premier League’s Golden Boot this season. The trio managed to score a tally of 22 goals in the current campaign that ended on Saturday, with Manchester City once again winning the league title and retaining it under Pep Guardiola.
The Story Of The Premier League Season
Though the Reds won their match against Wolves on the night and Mane scored a brace, it was not enough for them to be crowned the champions of England. Brighton failed to get something out of the game at home and lost 4-1 to the Cityzens after the hosts had taken the lead on the night.
With that being said, the only positive on the night was that both Mane and Salah were awarded the Golden Boot award, along with the Arsenal man, as the trio ended the season with 22 goals from a total of 38 matches. The Egyptian had an additional 7 assists, while his teammate had just one assist. Aubameyang had five in his tally as well.
This will be a huge boost for the Merseyside outfit heading into the Champions League final against Tottenham at the end of the month. Both managers (Klopp and Pochettino) will be looking to win their first titles with their respective clubs and it will be quite a contest.
Liverpool Finish Second This Season; A Loss That Would Hurt Them
The Reds finished in second place this term, while Spurs finished fourth. That is despite the fact that they both have won nothing in recent years. City once again dominated the competitions so far. They were successful in winning the League Cup and the Premier League title.
However, these clubs now have the opportunity to become the champions of Europe. They can silence their critics, once and for all. Liverpool knocked out favourites Barcelona to advance to the final. Ajax were beaten by the north London giants, in the dying seconds of their second-leg tie.
Both comebacks were memorable ones. However, the prize is now on the like at the Bernabeu. The two teams will be fighting it out for the title of being crowned the champions of the continent. The Merseyside outfit has done it before in recent history under Rafa Benitez, though for Tottenham it will just be a miracle and a once in a lifetime moment if they do manage to win.
Sadio Mane Shares The Golden Boot Award With Mo Salah And Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Liverpool will be blessed by the presence of two Golden Boot winners. They will surely give them the edge over their rivals. A team that has been missing Harry Kane in recent times due to a long-term injury. The Londoners will be hoping that their star talisman can make a return to the team for this key fixture. Though, only time will tell whether that actually happens or not.
Meanwhile, the likes of Llorente, Son and Lucas Moura (the hat-trick hero of the previous game) will be expected to produce more of the same. The fans hope to see their team beat the Kops. Jurgen Klopp too will have a point to prove in this game. That is, as his team have already lost four cup finals. They failed to win the league as well. He will surely want to change that and fast, adding some silverware to his name at Anfield.
