According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Liverpool are preparing a bid to sign Olympique Lyonnais superstar Moussa Dembele in the upcoming summer transfer window in order to bolster their squad for next season. The French forward has been grabbing headlines over the past two seasons with his development and growth and Liverpool are looking to lure him to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp plans to dethrone Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool enjoyed an extremely fruitful season this term as they tasted success on a continental stage by winning the UEFA Champions League. The Reds beat Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final in Madrid to lift the European Cup for the sixth time in their illustrious history.
However, despite having their best ever campaign in the Premier League since the club was formed back in 1892, Liverpool finished in 2nd place, just one point behind eventual champions Manchester City. The last term, Manchester City stormed their way to the Premiership title breaking multiple records in the process, amassing a staggering 100 points. This season, Liverpool ensured that the title race goes down to the wire as they pushed Pep Guardiola’s side to the final day of the season to actually win the trophy. The Reds though are likely to come back stronger to fight for the elusive League title and Jurgen Klopp wants to end the 30-year long wait for Liverpool to win the title.
The Merseyside club is planning to add further reinforcements in the summer to achieve the feat and has already decided on nine players they will offload to downsize and become more efficient. One player who is leaving is English forward Daniel Sturridge as they 29-year old’s injury woes have kept him at bay from living up to his full potential. Klopp wants to sign a suitable replacement for his terrifying attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane if either one of them gets injured or is offloaded in the summer.
Belgian star Divock Origi is yet to sign a contract extension with Liverpool following his Champions League heroics but the European champions want to make a splash in the transfer market to add a new face into the club. Reports claim that Liverpool is keen on signing Lyon superstar Moussa Dembele in the summer from Ligue 1 club Lyonnais.
Liverpool will target some domestic silverware next season and Dembele is a player who is a clinical goalscorer and he proved that when he scored 20 goals across all competitions this season. The 22-year-old can offer Liverpool a different dimension in attack as he can hold the ball up in the final third because of his physicality. Dembele is also a threat in the air and has a rapid natural pace to trouble defenses.
What makes Dembele more of a player that is suited for Liverpool is the fact that he is able to link up well with his teammates and Klopp’s footballing philosophy is based on the ability to move the ball quickly in the attacking part of the pitch.
