According to the latest reports, Arsenal manager Unai Emery is ready to tell the Arsenal transfer board to sell key play-maker Mesut Ozil in the summer transfer window. The German midfielder has not been in the good books of Emery and even most of the Arsenal faithful have mixed emotions about selling Ozil, who has caused plenty of controversy over the past few seasons.
Unai Emery has the big task of getting Arsenal back to challenging trophies over the next few seasons and he needs to strengthen his squad this summer. The Spanish manager took charge of Arsenal football club back in the summer of 2018 and became the successor to the legendary Arsene Wenger. 69-year-old was the manager for Arsenal for 22 long years and won several honors during his reign including seven FA Cups and three Premier League titles. The Frenchman was integral to bringing Arsenal back to the challenge however during his final few seasons in charge he wasn’t able to take the club forward. Wenger came under criticism from most Arsenal fans as well because of the lack of trophies and competition for major honors and the club was in dire need of a new face to bring in life and fresh air to Arsenal.
The north London side appointed Emery and he was initially doing just what most fans wanted as most of his summer signings hit the ground running. The 48-year-old took Arsenal on a 22 game unbeaten streak across all competitions and towards the final few stages of the season, it looked as if the Gunners were in contention to secure a top-four berth. But a stunning collapse at the end of the season ensured that Arsenal finished in fifth place and were unable to qualify into the Champions League.
The Gunners had another chance at making it into the elite European competition as they made it into the finals of the Europa League and a win against Chelsea in the final would ensure qualification. But the West London outfit hammered Arsenal 4-1 in Baku showing Emery that he needs plenty of work to be done over the course of the summer.
One player who is at the exit door at the Emirates Stadium is midfield gem Mesut Ozil as he has fallen out of favor with Emery. The German has not been a regular player under the 48-year-old having been dropped on several occasions this season. Although Ozil played 80 minutes of the Europa League final against Chelsea, his performance was below par and his reaction to being substitutes wasn’t taken well by Emery as well as the Arsenal fans.

Emery has now reportedly told the Arsenal board that Ozil is not in his future plans following the 4-1 defeat against Chelsea in Baku and that he wants a new player to take up the position of the 2014 World Cup winner.
There is certainly no doubt about the quality that Ozil possesses but if the former Real Madrid star is unable to fit in with Emery’s style of play, he should be sold.
