Arsenal Legend Opens Up On This Top Player’s Situation, What Will Happen Next?

Former Arsenal superstar Kevin Campbell has reportedly opened up on Mesut Ozil’s situation and claimed he does not see a team being formed around the talismanic midfielder. Campbell has also stated that Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser could be an ideal replacement for Ozil in the summer, indicating that the 30-year-old could be sold.

Unai Emery has had quite a mixed bag in his debut season in charge of Arsenal football club since taking charge in the summer of 2018. The Spanish manager took over the reins from his legendary predecessor Arsene Wenger who managed the club for 22 long years. In his time in North London, the Frenchman won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups getting Arsenal competing once again. However, during the final few years of his Arsenal career, 48-year-old wasn’t able to adapt to the newer trend and generation of football style. Arsenal were in dire need of fresh air and a new manager that could take them to the next level and Emery’s appointment initially did just that.

Arsenal went on a 22 game unbeaten streak across all competitions in the early parts of the season and it looked quite certain that Arsenal should finish inside the top four. However, a staggering collapse towards the final part of the season kept Arsenal in a fifth-place spot and out of the elite European tournament. However, Arsenal did have another chance to play in the Champions League as they faced Chelsea in the Europa League final. A win over the West London outfit would take the Gunners into the Champions League but instead they suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat against Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea in the final of the tournament.

This proved that Emery has a big task on hand with Arsenal in the summer and he needs to solve these problems quickly. One player who has come under scrutiny over the last few months has been Mesut Ozil as the 30-year-old has not been preferred by Emery because he does not suit his style of play.

Ozil’s future at the Emirates Stadium is in doubt because of his incredible wage rate of £350,000 a week and his contract expires in 2021. Ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has admitted that the Gunners should look to sign Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser as he would be a better option in comparison to Mesut Ozil.

While speaking to Love Sport Radio he said that the Scotsman with seven goals and 14 assists for the Cherries would be a great option for Emery’s dynamic attacking side instead of Ozil, “Whether he is still there or not I do not know but I can not see a team being built around Mesut Ozil, We have a front two there that have proved to be the difference makers and I think we should be looking to supplying them because they can take the game away from any team. Ryan Fraser has proved himself at Bournemouth. People might say it is only Bournemouth but a lot of these players are productive, he has got double figures in assists and he has scored goals. A lot of the time people look at the names on the back of the shirt, and I do not think people should worry about that anymore. We need players who want to be at the football club and will put a real shift in. And Ryan Fraser, I would not be disappointed if Arsenal went for him.”
