According to the latest reports, Premier League side West Ham United have completed the signing of star midfielder Pablo Fornals in a £24m deal from La Liga club Villarreal. The Hammers have sealed the deal ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who were also interested in signing the Spanish superstar in the summer transfer window.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur had quite an incredible run in the Champions League as they managed to reach the finals of the competition. However, Spurs felt short by just a hurdle as Liverpool tipped them to continental glory as they won 2-0 in the final at Madrid. Spurs were also the better side in the final as they dominated most of the ball and had their chances but failed to convert them. However, Spurs should be proud of their achievements because Pochettino attained this feat without making any splash in the transfer market for 16 months. The north London side also managed to finish in third place in the Premier League table which makes them eligible to play in the Champions League for next season.
There is no doubt that Pochettino is doing an incredible job but he may just need to purchase a few players in order to go the extra mile and win silverware on a regular basis with Spurs. Tottenham have just moved into their new stadium and have things looking up for the club with the players at their disposal. However, they had their transfer target stole from their local London rivals West Ham United yesterday.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side confirmed the arrival of Pablo Fornals at the London Stadium and the Spanish star signed a five year deal with the Premier League club with the option to extend his stay for an extra 12 months as well. West Ham United have already closed signings for goalkeepers David Martins and Roberto and Fornals has already become the third signing for the Hammers.
Fornals scored six goals and notched up three assists as well across all competitions last season for Villarreal and helped them finish on 14th place on the La Liga table. The 23-year-old spent his second spell with Villarreal, beginning his youth career at the club after rejoining from Malaga in 2017. Fornals will join the West Ham United squad following the conclusion of the U-21 European championships which end on June 30th.

The young attacking midfielder will become the most expensive signing for West Ham United in the history of the club as the Hammers splash out a club record £24 million to purchase the midfielder. After confirming his move to London, Fornals expressed his delight of signing for West Ham United and spoke to reporters and said that he is grateful for the club for giving him the opportunity to play, “I feel very good, very happy, and very grateful for the opportunity and to be part of West Ham.”
Tottenham Hotspur will now have to look at other midfield options to strengthen their squad, as Pochettino looks to win his first title with the North London giants.
