The Story About Phillipe Coutinho’s Move To Anfield; Is A Return To Liverpool On For The Brazilian?

Chelsea

According to Sun, Liverpool are considering in bringing Phillipe Coutinho back to Anfield. The Brazilian is also linked with Chelsea and Manchester United as the Barcelona flop looks to restart his career somewhere else. Barcelona made their most expensive signing by bringing him in the January month of 2018 to finally seal up the left wing position that has been left vacant since Neymar’s departure to PSG. Also, at that time Ousmane Dembele was declared as unprofessional and injury prone even though his signing turn out to be a luxurious one too. So, Coutinho’s arrival brought hope in the minds of Catalan fans taking into the account how good the player was at Anfield.

He took time to settle in because of the injury he was carrying at the time of transfer in the remainder part of the season. Coutinho contributed some goals in cup games and scored a hat-trick against Levante towards the closure of the season. As the time was too little for him to do a massive impact, the club expected of him to demonstrate his class in the new season ahead.

But what followed in the 2018/19 season was forgettable. The Brazilian not only failed to show his rhythm but also started ghosting around defenders, completely obsolete from play. His amateur touch on the ball and failed dribbles frustrated Nou Camp. Coutinho’s dropping form caused due to his lack of confidence and composure with the ball led him to disastrous consequences. The Anfield maestro has suddenly changed into a utter flop for the Spanish outfit.

Now, his below par attitude in game making and plagued with Messi and others creating an external pressure by their charismatic presence on him, it is a fact now that the Brazilian star is now counting his days here. Also, his previous club bullied the La Liga champs 4-0 in the second leg of the Champions league semifinal, overturning a massive 3-0 lead from the first leg, at Anfield. And Coutinho didn’t replicated his brilliance in both the games.

Surprisingly, it seems Liverpool is wanting him back in the ongoing summer window as reported by many. Without him the Reds were available to reconstruct their squad, bringing in defender like Virgil Van Djik and goalkeeper position was sorted by purchasing Alisson Becker from Roma in the last year transaction windows. This cumulated in Liverpool securing the Champions league title and losing the Premier league title just by a point.
star signing like Navy Keita and Fabinho also made their impact as the English giants concluded a successful season.

The situation for Countinho is now in jeopardy because Liverpool had already build up a challenging squad, effective enough to win silverware in near future. They possess one of the best attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Firmino and Mo Salah in the world and it is improbable that some of them will depart in the summer. Secondly, Klopp’s plans are well rehearsed by the current group of men and Coutinho’s task would be bench warming. With the Reds linked with another talented forward in the form of Nicolas Pepe, Coutinho’s deal doesn’t look like a positive one.

Still, if Liverpool are serious about him now it would mean squad depth and nothing else. Klopp’s men felt the necessity of it when they drop points on the road in the turn of this year during the season, injuries to major players being the cause. City won the race by winning the title yet again, showing the importance of squad depth in the long run.

However, Coutinho haven’t opened up on his future yet as he is currently busy with his duties for the national team in Copa America.
