Virat Kohli Picks Cristiano Ronaldo Over Lionel Messi, Says The Portugal International Is Unmatched

Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli has sung praises for the Portuguese talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo and claims the 34-year-old to be unmatched in terms of work ethic and passion for the game. Kohli also continued and said that Cristiano Ronaldo in unmatched and above everyone else for him and also claims that the Portuguese forward to be the most complete player he has seen in the sport.

The Comments Made By The Indian Skipper That Went Viral

The Indian team captain’s love for football is not unknown to his fans, as he recalled his memories of watching the exceptional achievements of the splendid Brazil football team back in 1998 and the 2002 FIFA World Cup in an interview with FIFA.com.

Kohli was asked the common question of comparing Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and who according to him is superior, as he said, “Ronaldo! In my opinion, he has taken on more challenges and succeeded at all of them. He is the most complete player I have seen and his work ethic, as I mentioned, is unmatched. He inspires people. I do not think many people do that. He is also a leader and I love that. Absolutely love it. He has amazing belief too.”

He also went on to add, “For me, Cristiano is above everyone else. His commitment and work ethic is unmatched. He wants it that bad – you can see it every game.”

Virat Kohli also spoke highly of France international, Kylian Mbappe, as he claims the French wonder-kid to be the next big thing in football and also claimed that his exploits against Argentina in the FIFA 2018 World Cup was something exceptional.

“Mbappe stands out for me. His sprint in the 2018 World Cup against Argentina is hard to forget. He’s a beast and he will definitely be at the top of the pile for me. Absolutely top-class player,” Virat Kohli said.

Kohli also spoke about India’s chances of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup, as the Indian captain holds high praise for the Blue Tigers and the development the team has shown in recent years. Also, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature 48 teams and there holds India’s chances to qualify, but it will still be a very daunting task for Sunil Chhetri and his men.

Kohli feels that Indian national football team captain Sunil Chhetri deserves to feature at the World Cup before hanging up his boots and his contribution to Indian football cannot be expressed in words.

“It is a sad fact to realise, especially after all that he’s done for the nation. If anyone deserves it, it is him [Sunil Chhetri]. And the team should rally behind that motivation and qualify, and dedicate it to him. He is an absolute champion and an inspirational human being.”

“We have improved drastically in our football over the last three-four years. With new talent coming in to make the difference, and our skipper Sunil Chhetri leading the team with amazing composure and inspiration, I see us qualifying very soon for the World Cup.”

The Indian football team are currently gearing up for their first 2022 World Cup qualifiers match. That will be against Oman at home. It will be followed by their game against Asian champions Qatar. The Blue Tigers are clubbed with Oman, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Qatar. Kohli is now with the Indian cricket team touring West Indies. The Men in Blue won the T20 international series in Florida against the Windies.
