Talking Points: Southampton 1-2 Liverpool; Reds Survive Scare, Adrian’s Howler; Mane-Firmino Score; FPL Tips And More

Liverpool

Liverpool has beaten Southampton with a margin of 2-1 in their second match of the campaign. The Reds have collected the all-important three points from this match and they have moved to the top of the table of the Premier League with this win in terms of goal difference. Here are the talking points of the match :

1. Liverpool Failed To Play Their Natural Football In The First Half:

The Merseyside outfit was completely dominated by Southampton in the first half of the match. Liverpool players were not looking in touch in the first half of the match. They had to play 120 minutes in the Super Cup against Chelsea on Wednesday night. It was too early for them to recover from the fatigue in the gap of two days. Southampton created a lot of opportunities but they failed to score from there. The goalkeeper of Liverpool, Adrian saved two brilliant shots of Southampton players which kept Liverpool in the match.

2. Mane and Firmino Came To The Rescue For The Reds:

Sadio Mane broke the deadlock at the last minute of the first half of the match. Sadio Mane is seeming to be in great form. After scoring against Chelsea in the European Super Cup, Senegalese International found the back of the net again in this match. Roberto Firmino scored the second goal for the Reds at the 71st minute of the match. Sadio Mane provided the ball towards Roberto Firmino. Roberto Firmino is also playing a vital role in the lineup of Liverpool this season.

3. Liverpool And The Defensive Problems Continued:

The defensive problems of the Reds continued to take place in this season. They failed to keep the clean sheet in this match also. Virgil Van Dijk provided a ball towards Adrian. Adrian failed to collect the ball perfectly and Danny Ings followed the ball. Ings scored from the opportunity he got in the second half of the match. After scoring the ball, the Saints got the much-needed confidence to make a comeback in this match. However, they failed to make a comeback in this match as Liverpool defence stayed strong at the back. The match ended with a scoreline of 2-1 in favour of the Reds. Liverpool stayed at the top of the table in the Premier League in terms of goal difference.

4. Fantasy Premier League Tips:

The managers who are still keeping two Liverpool defensive players in their side, the time has come to rethink. The Reds are not looking solid at the backline. Star wingbacks of Liverpool, Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander Arnold are failing to provide assists also. So, it is a waste to keep both of them on your side as they are costing you 7.0m each. On the other hand, Mohamed Salah failed to deliver in this match while Sadio Mane scored. Many players already transferred Mohamed Salah to get in Sadio Mane on their side. However, Mohamed Salah played 120 minutes in the Super Cup final. Mohamed Salah will surely come back in the next match strongly.
