John Cena To Break Impressive 17-Year Record At TLC; Recently Released Superstar Shows Up At AAA Guerra De Titanes And More

Unless John Cena is the one who answers Viking Raiders’ open challenge for the Raw tag team championship at TLC, he is on course to break an impressive 17-year record. Cena wrestled in his first pay-per-view match back in July of 2002 at WWE Vengeance against Chris Jericho. Since then, he has wrestled in at least one pay-per-view every year. His last pay-per-view was at Australia’s Super Show-Down in 2018, where he teamed with Bobby Lashley to defeat Kevin Owens and Elias. That was also the show where he debuted his new finisher, ‘Lightning Fist’.

Since then, he made another pay-per-view appearance at WrestleMania 35 but he didn’t wrestle in a match there. WrestleMania 35 was Cena’s last appearance on WWE TV as well. Since WWE TLC is the last WWE pay-per-view of the year, if he doesn’t show up on the show, Cena will break the record of wrestling in at least one WWE pay-per-view for 17 consecutive years.

Cena’s last match was on the January 14th episode of Monday Night RAW, where he failed to win the no. 1 contender’s match for Universal Championship. As Cena’s Hollywood career continues to take-off, his WWE appearance has become less frequent.

He talked to Sports Illustrated about his future in WWE and WrestleMania appearances earlier this year. The 16 time World champion has this to say:

“On the subject of WrestleMania, I can tell you this—I have not missed a WrestleMania since my first appearance at WrestleMania 19, and I do not plan to miss a WrestleMania for decades to come.”

He is very eager to return to WWE and the fans can expect him to make an appearance on WrestleMania 36, his 17th consecutive one. Notice how Cena said “appearance” and not match. Cena’s last WrestleMania match was at WrestleMania 34 against The Undertaker in a losing cause. At this year’s WrestleMania, he returned as the “Dr. of Thuganomics” to interrupt Elias’ live concert.

Here is the list of all-time pay-per-view matches list:

  1. Kane – 174
  2. Undertaker – 171
  3. Triple H – 169
  4. Randy Orton – 161
  5. John Cena – 160

Due to Cena’s inactivity, he slipped to the fifth position from the fourth. Seems like Cena is enjoying his new beginning in Hollywood.

Speaking of new beginning, recently released Sin Cara, showed up at AAA Guerra de Titanes event. Killer Kross was attacking Pagano before he was saved by Sin Cara. He then delivered a promo stating that he was there to save his friend Pagano.

Jorge Arias (aka Sin Cara) was one of the four wrestlers who were released by WWE last week. Apparently, Sin Cara asked for his release after signing a 3-year deal with the company. Surprising, WWE granted him the release because they were reluctant to release any superstars for the past few years.

WWE had trademarked the name, Sin Cara in Mexico. However, Arias might have got the permission to use the name, though it is said to be just speculation at this point. With that being said, things could get quite interesting in the days to come. Let’s see what happens now.
