Royal Rumble is just around the corner and as per usual, the hype around the pay-per-view is at an all-time high. The Royal Rumble stipulation is an exciting one as it is full of surprises and fans don’t really know who to expect in the match. Though the WWE is capable of selling out an entire Baseball Stadium just on the basis of two Royal Rumble matches, the management likes to book marquee title matches in the show as well. Brock Lesnar’s match could be one such match, which could be used to generate extra excitement.
Dave Meltzer earlier reported that Cain Velasquez is going to win the men’s Royal Rumble match to challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36.
Unsurprisingly, it was met with a lot of negative reactions from the fans in social media as Velasquez doesn’t exactly feel part of WWE right now. The management is just shoving him on fans’ faces and putting him in programs that no one wants to see.
Based on the new reports that are now surfacing, things could be quite different. According to Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda, WWE is planning to have Cain Velasquez challenge Lesnar at Royal Rumble. It will be a rematch for Brock Lesnar’s title, which means the result could be different this time.
He said:
There are rumors as ever of Cain Velasquez, he is rumored to be coming in for a match at the Royal Rumble, possibly against Brock Lesnar. Brock needs to wrestle someone, there isn’t a storyline so far. We will have to see how that plays out, that will probably start to be built after the Christmas season in the New Year show. Brock Lesnar will have to appear at least, to start a feud, and will undoubtedly appear on the go-home show as well. So whoever he will be feuding with, whether it be someone like Kevin Owens or Randy Orton or Cain Velasquez, we will see as that time comes. If Cain Velasquez does have a match with Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble, he will be a brief one, it will not last too long and it won’t be leading into a feud.
It is better to have Velasquez wrestle Lesnar is a match at Royal Rumble rather than having him win the Royal Rumble match and then going on to face The Beast at WrestleMania in April.
It’s worth noting that we could see another squash match between the two at Royal Rumble. Last time when these two faced each other at Saudi Arabia’s Crown Jewel, Lesnar easily defeated his opponent in a squash match.
There is a lot of history between the two former UFC Champions and WWE relied a lot on that during the build-up to their first WWE match. However, their match didn’t do justice to the story. We might still get a good build-up and promos, thanks to Paul Heyman, but the quality of their match will depend on the mood of part-time Lesnar and physical health of semi-professional wrestler Cain Velasquez.
Nevertheless, Shane McMahon has probably joined AEW as one of the Dark Order’s creepers. Here is a Tweet supporting the same claim:
