Seth Rollins is currently the top heel in WWE right now. He is one of the few wrestlers from the current roster who gets genuine heel heat for everything that he does. Of course, it started when he was the babyface Universal Championship, but the writers did a phenomenal job in using that hatred to convert Rollins into a villain. Recently, he talked to MySanAntonio about a bunch of topics including his current run on Raw.
The beast-slayer has been wearing a glove on one of his hands for the past few weeks. At first, it felt like he was just trying a different look to go with his new character. Rollins has a good story to share about it. He actually broke his finger six weeks ago and has to wear a splint to cover the broken finger. He can wrestle without the gloves now but decided to keep the look and see if it works.
“It is a happy accident. I will say that I broke my finger about six weeks ago and I have to wear a splint when I wrestle, and so I have to wear a glove over the top of the splint to keep it from moving when I am wrestling. Obviously, I could have taken six weeks off and not wrestled at all, but that is not really what I do. So, the alternative was trying to tape it, but tape didn not seem to keep it on very well. So, I just put a glove over top of it to keep it down.”
It is not a secret that Seth Rollins got a lot of hatred on social media due to some of the comments he made in the late summer last year. His character was not going anywhere and his Universal Championship run was a huge flop. The fact that he was insulting the fans was not helping.
Now that he is a heel, he is taking advantage of the situation as is not shying away to take a shot at WWE fans whether it is in the show or during the interviews. Now, he is of the opinion that the fans are watching the show only to complain about it.
“Our audience looks for things to complain about, to dislike and to pick apart. It is such a short, short lifespan. If you can maintain being in that hero role for a lengthy period of time, you are doing something incredible.”
One of the wrestlers that Rollins has befriended during his current heel is the former Cruiserweight Champion, Buddy Murphy. Murphy was called up to the main roster in April last year but didn’t have any direction to move forward until recently when he aligned with Rollins and AoP.
When Seth Rollins was asked about Murphy during the interview, he said that he had his eye on him for a long time and he has the ability to become a big star.
“And Buddy Murphy is someone who might have been in the right place at the right time this week, but someone I have had my eye on for quite some time. You know, I remember watching him win the cruiserweight title for the first time down in Australia and Melbourne a few years back and saying to myself that you know, there is a star right there. He has got all tools. He is a guy who’s in great shape, looks the part, talks the part and he is a hell of a hand — more than a hell of a hand in the ring.”
Rollins is having the time of his life as the Messiah of Raw, which the Authors Of Pain (AOP) are doing all of his dirty work for him. He is scheduled to be part of the upcoming Royal Rumble match on Sunday and will be expected to produce a solid performance once again. He won the men’s Royal Rumble match last year. Let’s see what he does this time around, with Brock Lesnar defending his title in the match now.
