Former Tottenham Man Talks About Mauricio Pochettino And The Arsenal Job

Tottenham

The Story Back Then- Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has stated that the Arsenal job is not something that should interest Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine manager was without a job right now following his sacking at Spurs. He has been linked with the Arsenal job following Unai Emery’s sack by the Gunners.

Jenas believes that Pochettino is at a level in his career now where he should not be interested in the Arsenal job. He has urged Poch to snub the Gunners if the opportunity arises. The rivalry between the two clubs could be a reason for this.

Jenas believes that Pochettino could get a much bigger job at the end of the season. The likes of Real Madrid or Manchester United could come calling for the former Southampton boss. However, for that to happen, he must snub Arsenal and wait patiently for the right opportunity to present itself.

Pochettino spent five years as manager of Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham. So, there were already some doubts over whether he would take charge at the Emirates Stadium. He is a top manager and was wanted by a host of big names across the European continent.

Jenas reckons that Pochettino should wait for Manchester United to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Zinedine Zidane to leave Real Madrid. Bayern Munich was also an option (back then), though they finally have a permanent manager now.

His Comments On The Arsenal Job

“Arsenal is a huge football club and I am sure the wages would be great for Mauricio,” Jenas told BT Sport in this recent interview.

The former Tottenham star further went on to add, “I put myself in his shoes though and would say his stock is far higher than that personally. I think the job he did at Tottenham puts him in another bracket.”

“I think if I was Mauricio I would be sat there going well I will have six months off to recuperate and rest as I have been working non-stop for six years. Come the end of the season there is a good chance that Manchester United might ring the phone, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid.”

Jenas backs Mourinho despite 'negativity' and Spurs tactics ...

Spurs sacked Pochettino in November following a poor run of form of the Lilywhites. It came just six months after he guided the club to the Champions League final. However, during his tenure at the club, he failed to win a single title. This has always been for the club that has been trying to make a name for themselves in recent years.

Though they have been growing with time, titles are a necessity in the modern era of football. With those, success feels a bit out of place.

Jose Mourinho has been brought in as a replacement of Pochettino. He has won all three games so far as the Spurs manager. However, The Special One has complimented Pochettino for the foundation of the Spurs side that he built gradually year after year. He even offered Pochettino the opportunity to return to the training ground whenever he wanted.
