The Indian Cricket Team won the T20 series against New Zealand recently with a margin of 5-0. The performance of team India in the away series was certainly satisfying for the management. The captain of Indian Cricket Team, Virat Kohli has made it clear that the upcoming few T20 series are going to be really important for the team as the T20 World Cup is knocking at the door. There are certainly many positives for the current Indian T20 squad but still, some aspects are missing which might be crucial in the knockout games.
The batting lineup of this Indian side is largely dependent on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. KL Rahul is now going through the form of his life. He has to maintain the form until the upcoming T20 World Cup. His keeping ability is certainly giving Virat Kohli and co. an option to increase the depth of the batting lineup. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey are trying to provide some stability in the middle order. So, the batting unit is looking quite settled; though the over-dependence on Virat and Rohit needs to be changed.
The bowling unit is not looking quite balanced at this moment for Team India. The bowlers have shown promise in parts but they have yet to prove themselves as a complete bowling unit. The injuries to key bowlers like Bhuvaneswar Kumar and Deepak Chahar are currently affecting the Indian Cricket Team.
Shardul Thakur is getting preference ahead of others in the pecking order because of his batting ability. However, Shardul needs to work a lot to improve his bowling. Jasprit Bumrah is the number one bowler for team India and has to take extra responsibilities in the big games along with another experienced campaigner Mohammed Shami.
It is quite certain that India will not go with both Kuldeep and Chahal in the starting lineup in any match. So, the absence of one key spinner might prove to be crucial for the Blues. Washington Sundar is yet to impress the selectors with his performances so far. Ravindra Jadeja is certainly an obvious choice as an all-rounder. However, the team management has yet to find a proper replacement of Hardik Pandya. Shivam Dube is certainly not ready for International Cricket as of now. So, the fitness of Hardik Pandya is going to be a key for India’s chances of winning the T20 World Cup this year.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s future is doubtful at this moment. It will be really odd to witness him back in the Indian dressing room after taking a long break. Rishabh Pant is likely to be added as the backup wicketkeeper of Team India in this tournament.
