Premier League leaders Liverpool are said to be preparing to make a £90m move for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, who is also a Chelsea target as per reports in Spain. The Frenchman has been a long target of the Reds and they wanted to sign him on more than one occasion but lost out to Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona respectively.
The World Cup winner with France has been sidelined for the majority of the season due to separate hamstring injuries. However, despite his lack of both form and fitness, he still remains a player very much in demand.
Liverpool Is Looking To Make A Move For This Chelsea Target
Dembele is admired by a host of Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City but it is reported that Liverpool is looking to take the initiative to sign their long-term target.
As per reports in Spain, Jurgen Klopp is preparing to make a move for the 22-year-old wide-man to provide competition for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
They have players like Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and a host of talented youngsters to compete with their famed triumvirate but Dembele would still be a world-class addition.
Barcelona is likely to demand a fee of £90m for the winger whom they signed for €105m-plus €40m add-ons in 2017. They look to raise funds to re-sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain.
At the start of the month, Dembele himself sparked speculation. He is eager to join Liverpool after liking a picture of himself wearing a Reds shirt.
The Story Of This Barcelona Flop So Far; Can He Do It In The Premier League?
A post uploaded by a Liverpool fan account showed the 22-year-old photoshopped wearing the shirt with Trent Alexander-Arnold in the background and he himself liked the post causing a lot of speculation.
The French international has gone out of favour at Nou Camp. That is after having had his attitude heavily criticised since his £138m moves from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
Chelsea is also in the race for the 22-year-old and has already met the player’s agent Moussa Sissoko. The west London club did not sign any players in the January transfer window. That was despite their transfer ban being lifted. Due to this, they have suffered against the bigger sides.
Further, Bayern Munich beat them 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie as well. This wouldn’t have gone down well with Frank Lampard and the west London outfit’s management. With that being said, they would be keen on signing more stars in the long run. Dembele could be one of their key choices.
Chelsea will be eager to get back to the top of the mountain. The best way to do that is to sign more players in the upcoming window. If that happens, then things can really change. They can rise in Europe once again. Things could get really interesting with the whole situation surrounding the Coronavirus. A few good moves could really go a long way. It will be interesting to see how the club management now works things out and what results they can really get in the days to come.
