West Ham United has been linked with a move for Marouane Fellaini in the last few days but the club has ruled out a move for the big Belgian. Reports in England claimed David Moyes was eyeing a move for the 32-year-old whom he previously managed at Everton and Manchester United.
The duo worked together for quite a long time at Everton and Fellaini also followed Moyes to Manchester United. Even though Moyes, ‘The Chosen One’ lasted only ten months at Old Trafford, Fellaini went on to stay at the club for six long years under four different managers.
Despite reports suggesting that Moyes is keen on reuniting with the Belgian midfielder once again, recent reports suggest that West Ham United are not particularly interested in the midfield dynamo.
The East London club has already agreed on a deal in principle to sign Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month loan without an option to buy. They are also very keen on Sander Berge of Belgian side Genk who has attracted a lot of clubs across Europe.
Berge has attracted attention from Liverpool as well with Jurgen Klopp hailing the player publicly. Liverpool and Genk met twice in the Champions League this season and Klopp has been pretty impressed with the 21-year-old Norwegian.
However, Berge moving to Liverpool looks unlikely as Liverpool have a lot of options in midfield and a 21-year-old player like him would want first-team football which looks doubtful at Anfield. West Ham United should capitalize on this opportunity and sign the promising midfielder.
Fellaini moved to China in February last year in February and has been doing really well for Shandong Luneng Taishan scoring eight goals in 22 matches.
The Far East league has now introduced a salary cap which means the midfielder would be forced to take a 75 per cent pay cut if he stayed beyond his current deal at the club which is the reason why every top player playing in China are being linked with returns to Europe.
The midfielder is not the most talented player in the world. However, he is a manager’s player and can get a job done that is assigned to him. He was successful under former United boss Jose Mourinho, which is why his services were retained by the Red Devils for such a long time.
With that being said, Moyes might be looking for something similar from his former star. He can be an asset for a manager who can really utilize his services well. The West Ham United boss at present needs players who are highly motivated and can get the job done on the pitch. The team is at present in 16th place in the points table and will want to climb upwards quickly, as they look to remain in the top flight of English football.
Coronavirus could be a factor that could save them from relegation. It will be interesting to see how things develop now, with the Hammers looking to really turn things around.
