If reports in England are to be believed, Liverpool flop Loris Karius is wanted by West Ham United in the summer. David Moyes is said to be keen on a £4.5m transfer this summer. The German keeper, infamous for his blunder against Real Madrid in the Champions League final defeat for Liverpool in 2018, could find himself back in the Premier League. He did not have the best of time in recent years. The goalie was shipped out by Liverpool on a two-year loan to Besiktas.
The German stopper is set for a return to Merseyside when this season comes to an end. Besiktas decided not to exercise their option to sign the German on a permanent deal. Things were not just going right for him anymore.
However, it is pretty obvious that he does not have a future at Liverpool. The Reds will be open to offers for the 26-year-old in the summer. According to reports in England, the former Mainz stopper could be available for just £4.5m this summer. It is further being said that the Hammers, Sporting Lisbon and Anderlecht are showing interest.
How Things Went From Bad To Worse?
He joined Liverpool from Mainz four years ago for a fee believed to be around £4.7m and was shipped out by Jurgen Klopp after the signing of Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker. However, Karius has revealed he hasn’t yet given up hope of playing for the Reds again and remains committed to the club.
Karius is most remembered for two monumental blunders in the 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final. He gifted Karim Benzema the opener after attempting to roll the ball out to one of his back four but presented it directly to the French forward and Benzema did not fail to convert the golden opportunity.
His second error of the night was when he fumbled Gareth Bale’s long-range effort to make it three although Klopp defended his keeper as he claimed that the German suffered a concussion.
The Curious Case Of Karius And Liverpool
Since arriving at Besiktas on a two-year loan deal, he could never really convince the manager or the fans. The German has made a series of high-profile errors for the Turkish giants and gifted several goals to the opposition.
His antics off the pitch in Istanbul has also been criticized. He has been partying too much after splitting from his girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla. Every touch of the 26-year-old was booed during a game in January. This was following his errors in the club’s Turkish Cup exit to second-tier side Erzurumspor.
Manager Sergen Yalcin has reportedly seen enough of the German. He has already started looking for a replacement of the error-prone keeper. The Liverpool goalie left the club after payment issues.
