Manchester United has had another pretty average season this term and the United boss Solskjaer is looking to boost his squad next season. United is struggling to get into the top four in the Premier League. They are currently sitting at fifth position in the table. However, from the first half of the season, things have improved. After the signing of Bruno Fernandez, United has come alive in the league.
James Maddison, Donny van de Beek, Moussa Dembele, Erling Braut Haaland, Timo Werner, and Raul Jimenez are main targets for Solsjker this summer. The United boss is also interested in Aston Villa winger Jack Grealish. Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund is another option.
There is still a possibility that Harry Kane might leave Spurs to join Manchester United. Solskjaer is also interested in the player and is looking for a world-class striker as well.
Former Manchester United star Michael Owen was in full praise for the current boss of his former club. Owen believes the Norwegian has done a decent job this season.
What Michael Owen Said?
“I must admit, right at the start [of the season] you would have to question [hiring Solskjær] because they were looking like there was no improvement,” he added.
“But just in the last month or two before the season stopped, I was starting to think he was doing the right thing and building a certain type of team that they did not have in the last few years.”
Owen says it must be frustrating for Manchester United to see the League getting suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
“I think with this current stop [for coronavirus], Manchester United might be the one team that wanted to continue playing, they were starting to get into a real good run of form,” Owen told ESPN.
“[Bruno] Fernandes had signed, he is a fantastic signing; [Paul] Pogba will be back soon; this break has been good for [Marcus] Rashford as well, he will be back fit.
“All of a sudden, you are looking at Manchester United – and I have not been able to say this for years – but you are looking at that squad thinking, ‘wow, they are on their way back’. They spent lots of money on their defence, they’ve still got one of the best goalkeepers in the world – it is starting to look very promising for Manchester United. I haven’t been able to say that for a long time.”
What Will Solskjaer Do Next?
Some of those Manchester United targets can cost the Red Devils a hefty amount of transfer fee rumoured to be around £100m. Dortmund will demand something like that for their star Jadon Sancho. Many other big clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool are also interested in the England international.
The worldwide Coronavirus Pandemic has caused all the football leagues across Europe including the Premier League to be suspended. The clubs are waiting until further notice. The latest reports suggest that the remaining fixtures will be played behind closed doors. The games will be telecasted only on television. The fans don’t like it but there they have no choice. Let’s hope for the best.
