Why Michy Batshuayi Could Play A Pivotal Role For Chelsea In The Summer Transfer Window?

Michy Batshuayi may leave Stamford Bridge this summer as Chelsea are ready to offload the Belgian striker. He has fallen down the pecking order in Frank Lampard’s setup. The Chelsea manager is eager to overhaul his squad. Lampard wants to add more firepower in attack. Batshuayi is considered surplus to requirements for the west London outfit. The 26-year old marksman was signed from Marseille back in 2016 for a transfer fee of around £33m. Despite that, the Belgian never really realised his potential at the Stamford Bridge.

He has scored only eight goals from 48 appearances for Chelsea. Further, he was out on loan multiple times. His goals tally at Chelsea proves how he has not been up to the task at West London. However his loan stints at Borussia Dortmund, Crystal Palace were better. However, while at Valencia he struggled to get going.

Batshuayi’s current contract runs until 2021. The Blues are hoping to cash in the 26-year old striker this summer. Lampard is keen to use him as a tool to attract other players to the club.

Who Will Chelsea Sign This Summer?

Chelsea’s interest in Jadon Sancho is not known but the Blues have a lot of competition in Manchester United. There have been talks of Sancho leaving Dortmund this season and coming back to England. Therefore Chelsea and Manchester United are the front-runners to acquire the signature of the England international.

It looks like Frank Lampard may have an upper hand over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. If they throw Michy Batshuayi in the mix, it would be easier to acquire the 20-year old star from Dortmund. The Belgian can be a viable option if used in the deal as he experienced some of his best time at the Signal Iduna Park on loan back in 2018. He scored nine times in 14 appearances. The loan stint was cut short due to an unfortunate injury.

Therefore the Dortmund board may feel tempted to bring back the Belgian forward in exchange of cash with Sancho going the other way to West London. It will turn out to be a very beneficial move for all the parties involved.

Why Things Haven’t Really Worked For Batshuayi At Chelsea?

Also adding to that Batshuayi’s time at Dortmund proves that the Belgian is more suited to the Bundesliga and therefore it there is a fall out with Dortmund over Sancho, Chelsea can still make a move with the Belgian in pursuit of players like Kai Havertz of Bayer Leverkusen or Timo Werner of RB Leipzig.

The Blues have also been linked with Olympique Lyon’s French marksman, Moussa Dembele and rather than paying the full sum of £60m, Batshuayi can again come in handy in a player plus cash deal. Mainly due to his top performances in his final season in Marseille at the Ligue 1, where he scored 17 goals and after that Chelsea were impressed and lured him from France. Therefore a move back to France may reignite his career back in track.

The last and final rumour involves Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving Arsenal and Chelsea are interesting in snapping up the Gabon International this summer. However, the Gunners will be reluctant to sell Aubameyang to their direct city rivals. His contract expires in 2021 and Arsenal will be forced to cash in on him this summer. Therefore if Batshuayi goes the other way then Arsenal will also have a proper replacement in place with Premier League experience. However only time will tell where the Belgian will ply his trade next season.
