Wasim Akram Makes A Controversial Remark About The IPL

One of the greatest bowlers of the game, Pakistani legend Wasim Akram has said that he estimates the current bowling attack which is playing in the PSL over that of the IPL. The 1992 World Cup winner has been one of the former cricketers who has participated in both the tournaments as a mentor. He has seen the bowlers from close enough, helping them to strengthen their bowling skills. This has helped make a difference in the shortest format of the game.

What Wasim Akram Said About The IPL?

Speaking with former team-mate Basit Ali on his YouTube channel, Akram said that the foreign players he has spoken with have the opinion as that of his about the two tournaments, i.e., PSL and IPL. According to him, “The five years that I have been part of PSL, I have asked foreign players about the differences between the two leagues, and they always say ‘bowling level is great in PSL’. In IPL, you tend to find one bowler in every team whom you can attack (as a batsman). But in PSL the quality of bowling is a lot better than IPL according to foreign players.”

The Further Analysis Of The Story?

Wasim Akram is undoubtedly one of the legends of cricket. He has been one of the greatest left-arm swing bowlers of all time. His contribution to the game, both as a player and a mentor or coach is immense. He has also been involved in commentating about the game. He has been working as an expert on developing the bowlers in the shorter format in the PSL for the last five years.

Besides his comparative analysis of the two tournaments, which are often compared with each other in terms of popularity and skills of the players, Akram also spoke about the possibility of the T20 World Cup. The tournament is expected to be held later this year in Australia. Whether it will actually happen or not, is another question.

There is a possibility of it taking place between the time frame of the months of October and November. It was last held in the year 2016. The teams are keen to get on with the cricket if they are guaranteed a safe environment.

However, it is definitely going to be a huge challenge for the governing body of international cricket, ICC. Their aim will be to organize the tournament in the prescribed time frame. There might still be travelling restrictions prevailing as well. Also, the safety of cricketers is one of the major concerns. This has to be on the top of the priority list of both Cricket Australia and ICC, which is going to affect the scheduling of the tournament.

Wasim Akram against the idea of T20 World Cup behind closed doors

What He Further Went On To Say?

Speaking on the same issue, the Pakistani southpaw opposed the idea of having the World Cup matches in empty stadiums. While speaking on the program “The News”, he said, “Personally, I do not think it is a good idea. I mean, how could you have a cricket World Cup without spectators.”

As per PTI, the former Pakistan World Cup-winning all-rounder also added, “A World Cup is all about big crowds, spectators coming from all parts of the globe to support their teams. It is all about the atmosphere and you cannot get it behind closed doors.”
