Jose Mourinho Wants This Chelsea, Liverpool And Manchester United Target At Tottenham

Despite all the financial crisis at Tottenham Hotspurs, manager Jose Mourinho is eager to strengthen his squad in the upcoming transfer window. Spurs unlike their London rivals, Chelsea, won’t be able to spend big due to the loss in money due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, they are keen on signing the player who was wanted by the Blues, Liverpool and Manchester United previously.

According to various media outlets, Mourinho has made Wolves forward Raul Jimenez as his prime target this summer. The Portuguese tactician is very impressed with the 29-year old Mexico international. He is eager to sign him and wants to bring him to North London.

Why Jose Mourinho Wants Jimenez At Tottenham?

It is understood that Mourinho wants Jimenez to push Harry Kane for the position upfront. This will only improve the Tottenham Hotspur side. However, it is said that that the 29-year old marksman wouldn’t cost them anything less than £30m.

The Lillywhites are struggling to make ends meet with the financial difficulties that they have had. They have reported being forced to borrow £175m to make up for the costs during this global crisis. With no matches being played for the last few months at their newly built stadium, it makes things worse. Also with sporting and non-sporting events getting cancelled the club is supposed to lose a staggering amount of money ranging around £200m.

Spurs were one of the English Premier League clubs who reversed their decision to furlough 550 non-playing staff. This was after facing a lot of criticism from supporters all over the world. Therefore it is certain that Jose Mourinho won’t be allowed too many funds in the summer transfer window. The Portuguese tactician may have to look at free agents where Willian can be a potential target for Spurs. This is considering Mourinho’s great relationship with the Brazilian winger during their time at Chelsea.

However, it must be understood that rather bringing another wide man Mourinho will be eager to bring in someone who can be a backup for their talisman Harry Kane. The England international has been superb for Spurs. However, an injury to the Englishman pushed Mourinho and his team to high waters. Therefore they will be better off with a proper backup. Raul Jimenez will be ideal for that spot.

Will The Deal Happen Now?

Kane’s absence in the Premier League was badly missed though as Tottenham won just three of the seven games he was out through injury. Although Son Heung-Min played in his position in the more central role, after some time the South Korean also succumb to an injury leaving Mourinho with plenty of trouble in finding bodies upfront. Right after Son’s injury Spurs struggled as they succumbed to back to back defeats against Chelsea and Wolves and then came up with a 1-1 draw against Burnley proving his worth in attack.

Although it will be difficult to lure Jimenez away from Wolves considering his goalscoring prowess at the Molineux. Despite all the financial difficulties Football Insider reports that Daniel Levy may just free up some funds for Mourinho to look for a backup forward.

The Mexican marksman has been in prolific form this season for the Wolves. He is one of the reasons why Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are in contention of European football this season. Jimenez has netted 22 goals this season in all competitions while providing 10 assists.
