Chelsea’s young attacking midfielder Christian Pulisic has got the world at his feet. This is according to USMNT’s former goalkeeper Kasey Keller. The 21-year-old USA international has caught the eye again after the season restart. He scored in back to back games for Chelsea in the Premier League against Aston Villa and Manchester City. This was following a man-of-the-match display in the FA Cup quarter-final win against Leicester City.
What the former USMNT goalkeeper Keller told ESPN FC after the 1-0 FA Cup win over Leicester?
“I thought he was Chelsea’s best player for the majority of the match. What he is able to do in not just setting up other players but finding himself in goalscoring opportunities, [Kasper] Schmeichel made a brilliant save or he would have scored in the first half.”
“If Pulisic can stay healthy and continue to learn and play better, there is no question I completely agree with Frank that the sky is the limit.”
Injuries have kept Pulisic out for the most part of this season. Despite that, he has made 26 appearances for the Blues and netted eight goals and provided six assists so far. That proves his quality and shows that he has been one of the best players of the Blues this term.
Further, Kelly went on to add about the Blues’ star
“You have seen that from him this season already. Alright, it has been stop-start, he has had a few injury issues, but now he looks to be back at full form.”
“His ability to on the turn skate past defenders and create space for his team going forward and create goal-scoring chances not just for himself but for his team-mates, that is a rare gift. Like I said, the sky is the limit.”
Frank Lampard praised the winger after his consistent showing after the lockdown. Chelsea’s boss did not count Pulisic as a first-team player in the early parts of the season. The American also claimed that he was not recognized in the team bus when he first joined the Chelsea squad in pre-season. That phase has surely made an impact on the American to prove his worth.
What Frank Lampard Said?
“I wanted to protect him a bit against Villa, see that he could make an impact. He did that. I always planned to start him against Man City because I know what he can bring in these sorts of games and he brought it. He did really well.”
“He needs to keep working, he is a young player but he has got so much talent and he can get better and better.”
Chelsea is back in action in the Premier League tonight against West Ham United in the London Stadium. The Blues are sitting in the fourth spot in the Premier League table. Finishing in the top four has been a target for Frank Lampard’s side and the Chelsea boss has done a decent job so far with a very young and inexperienced squad he got after he was appointed at Stamford Bridge.
