Why West Ham Were Disappointed? The Hammers’ boss was left frustrated about VAR once again. This was after their goal got cancelled in the first half. Despite a brilliant 3-2 victory against Chelsea at home, a first-half effort by Tomas Soucek got cancelled by VAR. It was not accepted as Michail Antonio was caught offside in the goal review.
What West Ham Boss David Moyes Said?
“I am beginning to lose complete faith in it. Do not want to whine about decisions but that is what I am doing now. Everyone tells me they think the goal should have stood. I did. Was spewing. I was thinking: ‘Are we ever going to get a decision here’?”
Chelsea opened the scoring after Christian Pulisic was fouled in the opposition box by Hammers defender Diop in the first half and Willian finished it from the spot. David Moyes’ side quickly responded with a goal from a corner just before the first half ended.
Michel Antonio put the hammers ahead with a tap in where Christensen failed to mark him. Willian scored a sublime free-kick before substitute Andriy Yarmolenko sealed the victory at the London Stadium to keep their Premier League hopes alive for next season.
Moyes expressed his thoughts about the game after the full time saying this season many things have gone against them including some VAR decisions. At least that did not affect them in this game.
“Everything was going against us. Some of the things that have gone against West Ham have been really poor. I can not explain it. I said to the player that we need to make our own luck and it went our way tonight. We pushed hard and did a lot of good things – the players deserve a huge amount of credit, they are sticking to it and got their rewards.” – Moyes added.
Michel Antonio, who was the reason for that goal being cancelled, was delighted after a big London derby victory. Antonio scored the second goal for the Hammers on the night and also provided the assist to Andriy Yarmolenko, who came off from the bench to score the final goal.
What Antonio Said With A Smile On His Face?
“I really dislike VAR, I really dislike it. This season so many things have not gone our way. But today it did not stop us, we just kept going, and we got the victory.”
Antonio praised his team’s effort for winning against a team that plays terrific football. It was a huge three points for them. They are fighting to keep their Premier League status next season.
“It was hard, they play unbelievable football, and they kept pinning us in. It is a massive result. There have been so many games where we’ve been just so close, and today we had a goal taken away from us, we went 1-0 down, we drew level and then went down again – but managed to come back and win it. It shows the belief we have got, the grit we have got and that we are not going to give up, we will fight until the end.”
