The Frank Lampard Comment- The Blues were set to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their final Premier League match. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side had a wonderful campaign this season and they are sitting in 6th position in the table only four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. Both the sides needed points from this tie to secure their targets for the current season. A win on Sunday will be enough for Wolves to secure their qualification in the Europa League next season.
Where Frank Lampard’s side only needed a point to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Wolves are in great form and they are coming to Stamford Bridge after picking up seven points from their last three league games. Chelsea’s boss insists his team will be playing this game with a mentality to win.
What Frank Lampard Said?
“We will approach the game to win the game, I do not think there is any other way to approach the game of football. So we will do that, prepare right, respect our opponent. They are obviously a very good opponent, we have seen that all season in the league. So no, we prepare to try to win the game, we’re aware of the situation, but we try and win.”
Injuries have kept N’Golo Kante out in most of this season. However, the French World Cup winner is expected to feature if needed. Despite that, there was the possibility of resting him and keeping him fresh for the FA Cup final. However, that did not happen.
“There is a possibility that he will feature, he has trained, probably for the first time, towards at match pace this morning. So it is a decision I will have to make, talking to him, with the medical team, to see if he is ready to start.”
Frank Lampard brushed off all the criticism for Blues’ goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. This was after another poor display from him in Chelsea’s defeat against Liverpool.
What The Chelsea Boss Went On To Add?
“I do not want to comment on other people’s comments about players because that is their opinion and they are very well positioned to have their opinions. I have to work behind the scenes with every position in the team.”
“My only thought now is how well we can approach the two games in front of us domestically and then the one game against Bayern Munich. I do not want to get anywhere ahead of that. That goes for every player in the team, not just Kepa or any individual position.”
Chelsea faced rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup Final at Wembley. This is was a key fixture, which they lost. Both the London clubs knocked out both Manchester clubs in the semi-finals of the competition. The Blues still needed a point to secure their position in next season’s UEFA Champions League. This was where Mikel Arteta’s side was playing Watford in a dead rubber at the Emirates. Asked if that is an advantage for the Gunners to rest key players this weekend, Lampard had said that he was not concerned about that.
“Do not think so. Near on a week to the cup final after that and I would expect Aston Villa and Bournemouth will be hoping that Arsenal put out a full-strength team and be as good as they can be against Watford. I fell they will do that so don’t see any edge in that by the time next Saturday comes around.”
