The level of umpiring decisions in the IPL have been under scrutiny since the tournament has commenced. The fans have been calling the poor calls out on social media. There has been a lot of criticism, with the occasional fixing shoutouts from the people on Twitter and other Social Media platforms. With a few teams already being under the radar, there was another poor call in the game between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. This time it was Sanju Samson who suffered the ill-fate.
The wicketkeeper-batsman was given out in a bizarre manner. It was Samson facing Yuzvendra Chahal’s bowling. The attacking batsman played a good-masterful stroke to one of his deliveries.
Why Was The Controversy Created For The Sanju Samson Wicket?
What looked like a plain and simple catch, was nothing but. The umpires too were confused whether it was ‘out’ or not. They referred the decision to the third umpire, who was called on to have the final say.
After watching multiple replays, the fans thought that it was surely ‘not out’!! Most cricketing fans thought that it was ‘not-out’. However, the third umpire clearly had a totally different view for some reason. This did not go down well with the fans of the game.
Despite that, there were some who still tried to defend the call. Here is the video of the decision below.

Well, we leave it to the fans to decide whether that was ‘out’ or not. For now, the Rajasthan Royals struggled with the bat, as they lost a few quick wickets. Chahal was the man of the hour once again. Sanju Samson would have been really disappointed with the way that he was adjudged to be ‘out’.
RR made 154 for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. It is a competitive total, though they will have to bowl really well now. Things will not be easy but the game isn’t lost yet.
What Next For The WicketKeeper-Batsman?
Sanju Samson is keen on being selected for the Indian national team. The T20 World Cup is coming next year and he and Rishabh Pant, along with KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan could be fighting for a slot.
Getting out on four would have surely not helped his case. He needs to make some big scores if he wants to be playing for the Indian team. The umpiring decision did not go in his favour. This is one thing that could hurt a player. Especially, as the IPL 2020 is the make-or-break tournament for a lot of these young stars.
Hopefully, there are no such errors in the upcoming days. The BCCI and Sourav Ganguly will want to ensure that the quality of umpiring is maintained in the upcoming fixtures. Only time will tell whether that promise is delivered or not. For now, the fans are unhappy with this call. At least, most of them are!!
