The Entire Paul Pogba Controversy Involving The French National Side And The Sun

Pogba

France and Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba has denied claims suggesting that he plans to quit international football. It was confirmed that the Red Devils’ star made the decision following remarks on Friday from his country’s leader. Various Middle Eastern news sources made the claims that Pogba is furious with comments made by French President Emmanuel Macron

However, it was later confirmed that neither the 27-year-old midfield star nor the French Football Association confirmed these claims. The reports came immediately post the beheading of teacher Samuel Paty. The 47-year-old was killed who was attacked on his way home from the junior high school where he taught in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, 40km northwest of Paris.

The Story About France And The Trouble Surrounding It

Mr Paty was later on also awarded the French Legion d’honneur. It is the highest decoration bestowed by the French state. That was in recognition of the fact that he died for trying to explain the importance of freedom of speech.

President Emmanuel Macron described the murder as an ‘Islamic terrorist attack’. It was the incident that took the life of the French teacher. There have been a lot of backlashes since the same and things have been rather volatile.

He later added: “Unity and firmness are the only answers to the monstrosity of Islamist terrorism.”

Calls have grown around the world for people to boycott French goods in the wake of the president’s separatist comments accusing Muslims of separatism and he pledged not to give up cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.

Pogba made his international debut back in 2013 and went on to lift the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The dynamic midfielder has won 72 caps and scored ten goals for Les Bleus.

France’s most recent game was a 2-1 win away against Croatia, in which Pogba came off the bench. The next international break is next month, with the reigning World champs having three games, against Finland, Portugal and Sweden.

What Paul Pogba Said About The Whole Story?

Eventually, the Manchester United midfielder responded to the post by The Sun. He called them out and said that they had posted “fake news”. The fans went berserk on Social Media platforms, as The Sun already has a bad name.

They have been known to report some stories that have received some harsh criticism in recent times. With that being said, the French midfield generally was not really happy with these claims. He posted it on his Instagram, hinting that he was not really pleased. Further, there were stories of him suggesting that he would sue the publication.

This is not the first time that such a thing has happened with The Sun. Earlier, they did the same with England international and Cricket World Cup winner Ben Stokes. They posted some personal information, which really could have been avoided. However, it did not go down well with the player and there were claims of boycotting the paper amongst the fans.

It will be interesting to see how Paul Pogba and his representatives handle this. Only time will tell, though something seriously needs to be done. More power to Pogba!!
