The Indian team management and fans are heavily concerned regarding youngster Prithvi Shaw’s current form. Although the 21-year old has been backed by many, many of the experts are of the opinion of excluding him from the playing 11. The young opener was dismissed for a golden duck in the first innings of the first test match against Australia. In the second innings too, his performance has not improved. He scored a mere four off four before being bowled by Pat Cummins. After his poor performance, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has added himself in the list of people who want Shaw out of the team, ‘as of now’.
What Sunil Gavaskar Said On The Entire Situation?
The Australian pacers have brilliantly managed to exposed the youngster’s weakness in facing inswinging balls. On both occasions, he was dismissed via deliveries which cut inside after bouncing. In fact, just before Shaw’s dismissal in the first innings, Michael Clarke said in the dugout that there was something deeply wrong the young batsman’s technique. He said, “He does not commit his front foot to the line of the ball- leaves a gap between bat and pad a lot. That is where Australia should Target him”. That is exactly what the Aussies did and picked up an easy wicket.
The Reaction To Michael Clarke’s Opinion On This Matter Also Says A Lot
Recently, Sunil Gavaskar agreed to Clarke’s take on Shaw’s technical errors. He said, “Prithvi has technical problems, should be dropped in the next Test’ – Sunny bhai wants Shubman to open if he opens for his state Punjab (which he does)”
Not only Sunny, but many cricket experts feel that Shubhman Gill would have been a better go-to option in the Australian conditions. However, there are also some who think that Prithvi can not be dropped off suddenly. Boria Majumder pointed out that he had played a wonderful debut century and he would have to give at least one more chance before being taken out of the team.
If Shubhman Gill replaced Prithvi in the second Test, it would be a temporary replacement. However, if Shaw is given one more chance and he fails to live up to our expectations, he could be cut off for a long time and that is what is required. That is something that could hurt him long-term.
What Next For Team India As Virat Kohli Is Set To Leave
There are many replacement options ready though. Rohit Sharma will also be available from the next Test. Given the fact that Virat Kohli will fly back home due to his wife’s pregnancy, the management would have two choose two players out of KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma. One would replace Virat Kohli and the other, Prithvi Shaw.
The decision of not selecting
KL Rahul had also been questioned by many. The Indian batsman is comfortable playing at any position. He has proved himself in all the formats. Although he doesn’t have runs in pink-ball cricket, he should at least be tried once. That is keeping his current form in mind.
After Team India’s disastrous loss in the first Test, there will probably be a lot of evident changes. That is at least in the batting order, one could imagine. The Men In Blue scored their lowest ever run in a Test match in the second innings. The could only manage a mere 36 runs. Such batting is unacceptable and whether we like it or not, Prithvi Shaw will be targetted a bit. Sunil Gavaskar may have a point and it could be best to rest him and bring in Gill, for now.
