BCCI Officials In Dubai And Oman For T20 World Cup Preparations

Sourav Ganguly

The BCCI (Board Of Cricket For Control In India) is currently in Dubai and Oman after they left for the venue. They were supposed to be at the venues on the 16th and July 17th respectively. This was to inspect the grounds and conditions of the pitches there for the upcoming T20 World Cup. To add to that, they further wanted to discuss important issues regarding the same.

The Story Of The BCCI Visiting The UAE And Oman To Do Some Final Checks For The T20 World Cup

The ICCI has already said that the T20 WC will be held in the UAE and Oman. It will not happen in India because of the ongoing Covid-19 situation in the country. While the BCCI still remain the hosts, they’ve decided that the tournament will take place in Dubai International Stadium, The Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, The Sharjah Stadium and Oman Cricket Ground from October 17 to November 14.

One year-to-go until ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2020 – fans can be part of it with all tickets on sale

The first round of the tournament comprised of the eight qualifying teams. They will be split between Oman and UAE. Four of these teams will then progress to the Super 12s round. That is where they will join the eight automatic qualifiers.

What Acting ICC CEO Geoff Allardice Said In A Press Conference?

The upcoming edition will be the first T20 WC being played in four years. That is since the last one was when West Indies beat England in India in 2016.

“Our priority is to deliver the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 safely. Further, fully and in its current window. Whilst we are incredibly disappointed not to be hosting the event in India, the decision gives us certainty. We need to stage the event in a country that is a proven international host of multi-team events. That too in a bio-secure environment. We will work closely with the BCCI, the Emirates Cricket Board and Oman Cricket to ensure fans can enjoy a wonderful celebration of cricket.”

What Next With Regards To This International Tournament; Can The BCCI Make It A Success?

This tournament will be a test for the BCCI in itself. It will be closely preceded by the IPL 2021 second phase. That too could have an impact on the tournament in itself and the pitches and the conditions. It will be something that the BCCI, who are still the hosts of the tournament, need to keep a check on.

The Indian cricket board will still be making money from the tournament. They will want to ensure that it takes place properly so that the ICC can give them more events to host in the upcoming years. That will be the priority of Sourav Ganguly and co. who are already striving to ensure that the tournament is safe and sound.

It will not be easy to host the T20 World Cup in a foreign nation at such short notice. However, the IPL 2021 tournament second phase could help the BCCI do well in the second tournament that it hosts in the same countries. If that is the case, things would be expected to run much better and the organizers should have minimal problems, hopefully!!
