Mikel Arteta gave his opinion on Aaron Ramsdale’s performance to the media after the victory against Leicester City, in a post-match press conference following the game. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has lavished praise on his goalkeeper for his performance in the win and for assisting his squad in getting over the line.

In fact, the performance of Ramsdale was crucial as Arsenal extended their undefeated run to nine games in all categories by defeating Leicester City 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. The former Sheffield United goalkeeper seemed to be in imperious form as he produced a number of saves to deny Leicester City and maintain his clean sheet.

Arteta, as reported by Transfer Market Web, underlined his happiness with Ramsdale’s performances since joining Emirates in the summer, when he spoke to the press after the game. “Our investment in talent and individuals who we feel will be fantastic for the future of the club is predicated on that. Aaron has had some very promising performances in recent weeks, and tonight he made some wonderful saves to keep the clean sheet, and he has to keep doing so. In football, you have to play 50 games over the course of 20 years. This is only the beginning.”

The Spaniard was also questioned about Ramsdale’s stop to deny James Maddison’s free-kick, which has received a great deal of attention in the footballing world this season. Even Peter Schmeichel, the father of Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, a former Manchester United goalkeeper, praised the save as “one of the saves of the season.”

“It was simply a photograph, I had not seen the video footage. But my response when I saw the ball leave Maddison’s foot was to yell ‘goal’,” says the coach. If you ask Arteta about the save, I have no idea how it occurred; it was unbelievable – and the moment and timing of it were both vital,” Peter said when questioned about the save.

The Arsenal boss went on to discuss Ramsdale’s prospects of making it into the England squad, saying, “I believe that when you dream high, you are always optimistic. Keep your feet on the ground; there are individuals who make such choices, but he has to continue to do what he is doing on a daily basis to be effective. Train the way he trains, take care of yourself the way he takes care of yourself, have the mindset he has, and you’ll have fantastic results. The rest will take care of itself,” said Mikel Arteta.

Aaron Ramsdale is now second in the pecking order behind Jordan Pickford as England’s first option between the posts. Due to the Englishman’s outstanding performance, it would not be strange to witness a movement in the hierarchy by next year’s FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar.
