Antonio Conte is now eyeing a January deal for £15m Dutch star Stefan De Vrij, as he looks to add more quality to his defensive line. The Blues could once again revive their interest in signing Lazio’s star defender in the winter transfer window this season, after suffering their first league defeat at the hands of Liverpool recently.
The Chelsea boss was very desperate in signing a centre-back in the summer, but had failed in his attempts to bring the Dutch international to Stamford Bridge before the start of the campaign.
However, the Italian did sign David Luiz from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in a £32m deal on deadline day but he still wishes to add one more defender to his squad.
Conte is now persuading a January move for De Vrij, with the Serie A outfit on the other hand are preparing to offer a new contract to the 24-year-old.
It is stated that a fee of around £15m would be enough to tempt the Seria A underdogs into selling the defensive superstar. The Italian manager will be hopeful that he can play his cards right and get a deal done, in order to add more quality to his back-line.
Conte knows the kind of players that he needs in order to win titles and it will be quite interesting to see what happens next in this transfer saga that has been going on for some time now.
