DC vs KKR Live: Aakash Chopra has said that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are still searching for the perfect combination for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Shreyas Iyer’s team made a slew of changes to their starting XI for their Indian Premier League encounter against the Gujarat Titans on Saturday afternoon (GT). However, the adjustments did not have the expected effects. They were defeated by eight runs in the match. Thus, they lost five matches.
As part of his post-match analysis of KKR’s loss on his YouTube channel, Chopra noted the uncertainties around their team and batting order.
He went on to explain, “A great deal has changed in Kolkata. Aaron Finch was benched, and Sam Billings entered the game. Rinku (Singh) arrives. Sheldon Jackson is no longer in the picture. Pat Cummins is dropped. Tim Southee is brought in to replace him. Kolkata seems to be a squad that doesn’t know who they’re going to face since they’ve played four different starting pairs in their first eight matches.”
The former KKR player went on to say that the club has yet to find a stable starting duo for the season. He went on to say, “Venkatesh Iyer began his career as an opener. Am not sure why he has been assigned to the middle order. Sunil Narine has replaced Sam Billings as the new opener. Kolkata seems to be fragile, and Kolkata appears to be unsteady.”
The Kolkata Knight Riders have experimented with several different openers, including Venkatesh Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Aaron Finch, Sunil Narine, and Sam Billings. However, none of them has fulfilled their responsibilities at the top of the hierarchy. Thus, placing significant strain on their middle order.
DC vs KKR Live: “Varun Chakravarthy is not getting wickets,” says Aakash Chopra of KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy’s difficulties in the IPL
Aakash Chopra pointed out that the KKR seamers, as well as Varun Chakravarthy, haven’t been very effective in the IPL 2022 thus far. He made the following observation:
“A lot is going on right now. Varun Chakravarthy is not getting wickets. In fact, he is battling to find his line and length to be consistent. In the fast bowling, there is no evidence of penetration”
The well-known analyst went on to say that KKR’s batting stalwarts have also played a game of deception so far. He said, “Nitish Rana has scored runs in only one inning. Shreyas Iyer has scored runs in two innings. Venkatesh Iyer has scored runs in one inning. That is about it in terms of runs scored by the players. No one is attempting to run away with the innings. This group seems to be in full chaos at this point.”
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) began their IPL 2022 campaign on a high note. They had won three of their first four games and seemed to be on their way to making the playoffs.
However, they have dropped to seventh place in the points standings as a result of four straight losses this season. At the moment, they are battling to qualify for the knockout round of the competition.
