Latest Arsenal news: An astonishingly happy response to Bruno Fernandes’ failed penalty kick in Arsenal’s win against Manchester United was revealed by goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Premier League opponents Manchester United were defeated at home by Arsenal on April 23 by a score of 3-1.
Arsenal had a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Nuno Tavares and Bukayo Saka. But Cristiano Ronaldo equalised for the visitors in the second half.
At the start of the second half, United had a fantastic chance to draw level with the opposition. After receiving a penalty for a Tavares handball, Fernandes attempted a long-range shot from 12 yards. It deflected against the post and away from the goal.
Before being swarmed by his teammates after the game, Ramsdale burst into tears of joy as he realised what had happened. Certain sections felt that the celebration was excessive. The England international has now spoken publicly about it to justify his reasoning for doing so.
Latest Arsenal News: What did Aaron Ramsdale say about his celebration in the win against Manchester United?
The 23-year-old stated the following when appearing on the “That Peter Crouch Podcast”:
“It was excellent sh*thousery. But I believe it was exaggerated because there were five or six Arsenal players in front of me. I joined them in celebrating. It seemed that way. I’m sure I thought about it for a moment before stopping myself halfway through. But it was just an emotion. It has absolutely nothing to do with him, the football team, or anything else. It was simply a burst of pure passion. “
Granit Xhaka then sealed the victory for Arsenal with a goal late in the second half. United’s loss virtually eliminated them from the battle for the top four. The club is now concentrating on ensuring they finish in the top six at the very least.
Arsenal is poised to take Manchester United’s position in the UEFA Champions League.
After qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in 2016, Arsenal has not qualified for the competition since. It was the first time in 25 years that they failed to qualify for any European tournament during the previous campaign.
Unfortunately, things did not start well for Arsenal this season either. In their first three Premier League games, they were defeated by Chelsea, Manchester City, and Brighton & Hove Albion, respectively.
Arsenal’s performance since the start of the year:
However, since the beginning of the year, they have seen a significant improvement in their results. This, along with the inconsistency of their opponents, has placed Mikel Arteta’s team in a strong position to finish in the top four.
Perhaps the most egregious example of this unpredictable performance has been Manchester United’s performance. This has all but eliminated their chances of finishing in the top four.
Arsenal is now in the fourth position in the Premier League standings. They are five points ahead of sixth-placed Manchester United, who have played two more games.
